I cannot imagine working in space with some of the casually careless people I work with here on earth. Ignoring safety precautions and only doing maintenance when absolutely needed. And that is just the business owners. The staff is exactly the same. I bet a lot of those ships that ho missing in in scfi movies were the result of people like some of this crew.

Sure, the animatics and CG need quite a bit of work(from time to time the salvage ship looks like it's done the same way as The Last Starfighter), but I've seen worse in theatrical releases. I noticed the costumes and the ladder in the ship looked cheap, but seriously, I am shocked this could be made for $7,500. The big screen TV inside the salvage ship alone would cost $1,000+ and the interiors look pretty good. That's not even mentioning the acting(even though I'm only 20ish minutes in). You guys are amazing.

Well I thought it was excellent and the shaky cam worked really well in this case, building up the tension and feeling of 'movement'. The sets were great, they'd put a ton of time into them. And another thing that impressed me was how naturalistic the dialogue sounded, I've seen many independent films where it sounds like they're reading from cue cards. Kudos to the actors! Chris.

I would crowdfund this one for better texturing, but...the design work was so fresh I didn't care. Proof that when the story isn't too loaded down with the cliches the big studios insist on, the end product can be well done.

A remarkably entertaining film. I am astounded by the fact that the total budget was only $7500, I have done multiple combat animations for our product marketing, some as long as 12 minutes, and they all cost no less than $25,000, normally more. Very intelligent use of everyday props and items. Cinematography was a class act. Well done, well done!

When it ended I said "no" you can't end like that" and it made me think and think and think until I realized, it had to end that way. The journey and the action and the acting was top notch, the pace was fast for there was action plenty of it, and the music really set the stage for your imagination, and the special effects weren't over the top, they were done just right, real enough but not cringe-worthy. This movie makes movies like "Event Horizon" look like extravagant fantasy/horror films by comparison. I consider this actual science fiction, which is so difficult to find these days in cinema. I prefer that my sci-fi not be infected with supernatural elements, fantasy, and plain old comic-book stupidity.

I'm a retired professional film critic and filmmaker. Those people whining about this film either just haven't seen enough movies or they have no idea what they're talking about. This is one of the best low-budget Sci-Fi movies I've seen in decades. For its type, every penny raised is on the screen. The production values are high; the film is well paced, seriously acted and directed. No one 'walks' through their part or looks self-conscience that they are in a film with a tiny budget. The editing is good and adds to the pace. The action sequences are handled well and the director should be proud of his work and those of his team in front of, and behind, the camera. Believe you me, after you've spent a large chunk of your life looking at dud films it is always refreshing and gratifying to come across a decently made film. And extra points for not even trying to compete with the appalling dross that spews out of Hollywood. The concept of English language sub-titles for the US market is ludicrous. Americans just have to get used to the sad fact that they make very few good movies. The rest of the world makes movies too. FACT: Australia was making feature-length films when 'Hollywood' was dried up farming land, so too England and Europe. If they don't understand the English language that's not the fault of filmmakers. We sometimes have problems keeping up with deep southern 'drawl' in US films. Do we whinge about it, no. One of the reasons I retired from my job was the paucity of good films to write about. This film, happily, is an exception. I'd like to see more from this director. Cheers, BH.

Love the film, and yes its an excellent one considering the low budget. But good lord, really? We need to use it to slam the US? Very bigoted comment with absolutely no facts to back it up. It's just another gratuitous whine about the US.The US has to get used to the fact that they make very few good movies? This is like saying the US has to get used to the fact that they are not the largest military superpower. Give me a break! They produced the first full-length tallking firm (the Jazz Singer) to Edison's Studio's in the Bronx in the late 19th century. By the ratio of the best cutting edge filmmaking plus number of films produced, the US has been for a long time and still is the film industry superpower. Good low budget films? Ever hear of Juno, Napoleon Dynamite, Eraserhead, Blair Witch, Clerks, and on and on? That's just a small window of time there. It doesn't matter that you don't like them, they are award-winning films, like The Drift. But to show at once the tribalist bias with a demonstration of this point of US film supremacy, Cannes, which is definitely French biased, has the US between 1996 and 2016 winning almost double the awards of the UK, with the French naturally taking the most. It's not a contest between the US and the UK, which so many all brits reflexively make of any comparison of anything British to the US, and these kinds of ridiculous comments add nothing to film criticism and everything to the power of dumb.

Full of cliches, from equipment failures galore, to a crash (that somehow doesn't cause a loss of pressurization, and ends up being a minor spaceship fenderbender) to some kind of dangerous critters (on a vessel that's been adrift for 20 years). Crewperson gets a live radio message (although they are far enough out that they needed to be in suspended animation.) I'm a relative latecomer to the KZbinVerse, egregiously so being a relatively old SW and Controls Engineer (so I am told). Setting relativity aside for the moment without I hope, substituting theoretical foolishness instead: I desire to cast in my two cents in declaring that "The Drift" is hands-down the MOST AWESOME FRAGGIN MOVIE I'VE SEEN ON OR OFF LINE!! This work has earned my praise in that A) I loathe nearly everything that can be viewed on a screen no matter how many dimensions exist this week or next ... B) I can count the number of comments I've written and posted on any media whatever on one hand over the year so far. Bravo Zulu to the intrepid souls who produced a most excellent movie without, pardon my physics speak, A WHOLE SHITLOAD of unnecessarily lewd image or obscene speech.

I can see why so many awards. Good plot, and enough realism in the set. I love the opening when the systems become active again. The boot up is well thought out. One thing I have a bit of a curiosity about: It seems to me there'd be a rush by everyone to take a piss. Like right away. When I get up that's the first thing on my mind....er bladder. But like any other difficultly it was no doubt overcome by human ingenuity. We gonna have to figure out the problem of lavatory issues in long haul space flight. All in all these guys with a little more money could be the rivals of any Hollywood comic book production company. Thumbs up.

After closer inspection i think my negative comment was wrong!!! for a zero budget that doesnt look zero budget you guys clearly pulled off a labour of love with this movie...Keep up the good work id like to see what else you could pull off....Maybe the asylum film company should take notes...

This was packed with all the cliches and plots from various movies and TV shows, even spied “Serenity” influences in the “Deliverance” ship design, but the reavers in this looked liked they had a slice of bread and jam stuck to their faces. Enjoyable though. Well done

Opening credits were great. Kudos on the great shoestring digital work. Ship looks a bit like "Serenity" if you catch my drift. Zombies or not I give it a thumbs up.

Why is it that so many British movies appear to have been shot in the bottom of a coal mine using only two candles for lighting, and one or both keep getting blown out?

In the first scene the flashlight strapped to his helmet, I got a few of those at harbor freight tools last month, they must be very popular in the future !

I think this movie is wonderful...great job on everything...especially considering the budget. The low tech mixed with high tech really worked for the movie. I saw duct tape, toggle switches from the hardware store etc. I think the "space suits were the tops of those trash cans with the "swinging flap doors"...but it all worked together! Going to look for more of their productions. Best hour and 40 mins. I've spent watching a movie in a while. Thanks to all involved.

I just found this film and really enjoyed it. Always been a sci-fi fan and was pleasantly surprised to see a "down to earth" film. Very well done..Got lost a couple of times in the story but recovered and carried on !! Thanks so much for this.. Excellent..

This was so damn enjoyable, I couldn't buy a decent motorcycle for what they produced this movie on. About $8,000.00 dollars U.S. I believe. Nice work.

This film was a community project, with the aim of demonstrating the group's capability of producing a professional-looking feature film on an ultra-low budget. Those involved included professionals, media graduates and local volunteers, some of whom had no previous film-making experience. Everyone involved gave their time for free. Costs were funded by the members of Backyard Productions, assisted by a community grant from the Lincolnshire Co-operative.
