you know what? and of course this is only MY opinion but with people always going on about clean tones and "not enough clean tones" and clean this clean that. let's just put that fire out right here and now. the intro of Roxanne in this video is MY FAVORITE CLEAN TONE EVER!!!! NOT a clean amp. NOT a clean channel. just a great strat with a great neck pickup with the volume rolled off plugged into a BLAZING TUBE AMP (in this case my Friedman X). MY favorite clean sound. MY show. so this is what you get.

The star of the show should've been the strat but it wasn't. The moment Mr X opened up his mouth, that was it! Killer vocals, and in that key, bravo! It's been a while since I heard something similar.

Hard to believe this song is coming up fast on being 40 years old. I remember when this came out in the late seventies and singing it on the bus. Damn that many moons ago. It always brings back great memories when I watch "48 Hours" and Eddie Murphy is singing it in that jail cell. Awesome. Phil really did this one justice.

In retrospect I would be absolutely heartbroken to find out that Fender had discarded the ash body on my 1954 Strat to replace it with an alder body. Nothing wrong with alder but damn, desecrating a 1954 Strat seems blasphemous looking at it now. Back then I am sure it was a no brainer because there was no market for vintage guitars and certainly no recognition of „tone woods“. Woods were used for their practicality. They put rosewood fretboards on maple because players would wear through the finish of a maple fretboard and not because it would change the tone. Fender switched from ash to maple because it was cheaper.

Dom Whiffen No prob Mate. Andy Summers used a JC...as does James Hetfield. I thought Phil might have chucked in a bit of chorus somewhere as, like, you know, a joke?
