I met Phil at a bar in LA. He was watching this incredible jazz band (as were we all), and you could tell what an absolute fan of music he was. He was so locked into the group, smiling and just enjoying himself. I gathered up the courage to go say hi, and buy him a beer. He was everything he appears to be. There's no show. He's just a wonderful excited man and so incredibly humble. His gratitude was palpable (this was before his Bon Jovi fame). Phil is such a wonderful musician, but most importantly, he's a damn decent human being. So happy to see his career skyrocket.

I echo the same sentiments about Phil. I met him when he was in Triumph at this place in Waterloo, Ontario Canada (many moons ago) called The Red Pepper on a Tuesday night when they held open jam sessions. The guitarist for the “house band” on those Tuesday nights knew Phil from within the local music community and invited him to come out and play a few songs with them (and he did). But before the show as everyone was setting up I was introduced and Phil and I talked. He was incredibly nice, funny, humble and just so easy to talk to. It’s always good to see the good people do well. Phil is certainly one of them.

Also the picture shown is "Irish bouzouki", not the kind that Phil X is talking about. Other than that, this was a great video. Thank you. :)

I feel like this guy is the definition of rock and roll from the way he plays to the way he talks.

If you guys want to listen to the full version of that first song that Phil X is playing, it´s called: "Perasmenes mou Agapes" by Manolis Chiotis. It´s an absolute classic and Chiotis is considered one of the greatest bouzouki virtuosos of all time, basically the equivalent of Django Reinhardt or EVH on the bouzouki and an innovator on the instrument. There are countless versions of the song, incl. a pretty cool "metalized" cover by Gus G (Firewind, former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist), who rearranged the song for electric guitar.

Love PhilX, such a beast. So glad I found him on Fretted Americana way back in the day. One of faves, hope the Drills make it to the Motor city one day. Maybe it’s time to finally go see Bon Jovi.

I may not have learned about Phil the "normal" way, but I simply *loved* his appearances on Fretted Americana. Such an awesome person
