While so many sage voices tell us to beware of KZbin golf advice, Mark - yours is always spot on - practical and understandable. And it works for me. Thank you.

I think this is a great tip about the grip. My golf pro had me working on this exact thing a month or so ago. Results have been great. The bit about the short left thumb is really important and everytime I grip the club now to take a shot I make sure my hands are on the grip correctly. Eventually just becomes part of your set up but its a key fundamental. Thanks for sharing Mark, you've just confirmed that my golf pro has got me working on the correct fundamentals.

Very good points, setup with proper grip and also stretching arms out should lead to straighter, longer drives. It's always good to check fundamentals to keep your mechanics proper.

thank you Marck, this wrist in position/extension like a freesbee is really cool, the wrist is flatter on the ascent... I tended to arm more vertically so less fouetté !!!!! but if I may say so, the explanation goes a bit quickly for us French !!!!! bravo again for your work and sharing your knowledge.

I do the first two but was still having issues and realised that the trail elbow needs to be very open/facing forward. This along with a feel like I’m stretching forward in set up, really seems to help the feel of coming underneath the ball

Extended thumbs! 🤯How do you always manage to wrap up the detail so well with a perfect comparison. That makes so much sense, nobody holds a pencil at finger's length! This will be tried at the next range visit. Thanks, Mark.

Where would we be without you?! Never heard that about thumbs, and it definitely applies to me. I actually nearly broke my left thumb due to excessive tightening of my right hand. Makes so much sense, got a range session tomorrow so I’ll add this in. Thanks MC you’re a ledge👍👍🤘🙏🙏

Just thought I'd share a personal triumph since I believe it was your instruction that was instrumental is achieving it. I just played my 3rd under 80 round in a row. Shot a 74. That's one better than last week and 2 better than the week before. And at 63 only needed a 9 iron to get home on the first par 5 hole and just missed driving the green on a 278 yard hole according to Shot Scope. Now, got anything for back pain. I've got sore muscles I didn't know I had. lol

Mark, I want to shake your hand.. I've been trying all sorts of things to stop the slice... I thought I had the grip sorted... Clearly not . I followed your advice here, and just shot my best 9 holes on my local course.. not only did it help on driver (first time over 200m), but hybrid also (first time over 170m)... A huge thank you!!!!!

So if I am stuck hitting dreadful smother hooks...hold in palm with long thumb/ 2 knuckles and hit with bowed lead wrist... but none of that seems to help. Used to be great with driver and terrible with irons. 180* change... and getting tons of 5i practice since it goes further than driver. 😔 Golf. Sucks. (In low times at least).

In the 80's and 90's they said to take your hands out of the swing, too handsy , they were wrong ! Golf is like other sports, it is vital that you manipulate your hands. Screwed up many a player,

Holding the driver just feels horrid to me. I feel like i have no control and all the weight is centred on my right thumb. I dont have huge hands so i dont know if thats the issue? I can hit my 7 iron for example a lot better. Feels more natural

Short thumb = poor leverage
@rowdyroddy519 Жыл бұрын
Short thumb ....the thing about a short thumb position is that it restricts hinging of the wrists for some people. It also promotes cupping of the left wrist at the top of the backswing. So if you are a player who tends to over hinge their wrists, and tend to hook the ball, and looking to fade it more... a short thumb grip will match up better for you than a long thumb. A Long Thumb grip will allow your wrists to hinge more, and get to a flat position at the top easier... it is more efficient getting into bowing at impact as well, as it has less movement to get there. This will match up better with a player looking to get more wrist hinge, and wanting to hit a draw. There isn't one way for everyone. A short thumb is better for some, and a long thumb is better for others. People's hands are all different sizes and finger lengths, so it's not a one size fits all thing. The key is figuring out which you are, so you can match your grip to how your wrists tend to function.
@rowdyroddy519 Жыл бұрын
The self test is to take your grip with the top hand only, and simply just cock your wrist. Does the shaft get to 90* or not. If it is less than 90 degrees, try the long thumb... if it is more than 90 degrees, try the short thumb.
