I've always loved Amanda Seyfried she's been apart of so many 21st century classics and cult favorites such as Mean Girls, Jennifer's Body, and Mama Mia. She's had a great career but I'm glad she's getting to show off more of her acting chops in a true drama series.

It wasn’t CVS it was WALGREEN’S that partnered with Theranos. In the series they probably used a fictitious name for the pharmacy chain and Grace has incorrectly inferred that it represents CVS (rather than Walgreen’s). There is no doubt that in real life it was Walgreen’s. This is covered extensively in Bad Blood, the Dropout podcast and in much of the trial commentary. It would be a lot of work to reshoot the whole video but she might want to add a graphic correcting the error.

Does Theranos really need a movie? The real story is bonkers and probably better than any work of fiction --- or more to the point, any work to fictionalize it. I think making Liz Holmes into a sympathetic figure isn't really accurate --- but certainly humanizing her and contextualizing her in a broader commentary on silicon valley would be.

Silicon Valley didn't give her any money. She got the funds/investment from Wallstreet types looking for some of the returns that the VCs in silicon valley usually get. I remember the guy from GV (Bill Maris) sniffed around it and refused to invest because she would not show anyone the technology. Wallstreet gobbled up.

It was actually Walgreens that used Theranos instruments. They probably didn’t want to be used in the series because of that, so CVS was a recognizable substitute that viewers could relate with.

I saw the HBOMAX documentary, and when I saw the trailer for the dropout, I was amazed by the level of acting Amanda brought to the role. She sounds like Elizabeth and has the same mannerisms as her. But I won’t be watching this weekly. I’ll wait so I can binge it.

Funny thing about Elizabeth Holmes is that she's just Steve Jobs without Steve Wozniak. If she had her Wozniak, meaning someone who was actually an innovative tech genius, she actually would have had something to sell and a means to reach the heights Jobs did.

She wanted to do things that defied thermodynamics and when told that by her engineers in a meeting, she told them to work harder, find a solution, and then spent the rest of the meeting coming up with a name for the cloud-they ended up with yoda

I've said this before about Holmes: what she really needed instead of starting a business was career counseling. Had she used her imagination and talent for storytelling to become a science-fiction author, she could have been very successful without ever endangering anyone's life or money. And she would have avoided federal prison.

I’ve been so excited for this ever since 2019. My first semester of college I had to do a whole project on Elizabeth Holmes and the Thera is business for my business ethics class and I read Hollywood was adapting for the screen and this story is so wild to me that after reading all the ins and outs of it (at least the info. That was available til then) I’ve been so excited to see it unfold in film. You sold me, grace!!

Hulu is killing it. My favorite series last year was the incredible "Dopesick". I have high hopes for "The Dropout" too. I saw the doc which just makes me more interested to see the series not less.

Everyone should watch the HBO Max Documentary. The Inventor: out for blood in Silicon Valley. You hear from some investors, the teachers, the people who caught her, and even a look into the meetings held at Theranos! Interesting stuff!!!

I skipped Pam and Tommy because they didn't get the cooperation/consent of the real Pam and Tommy. I mean isn't the whole point of the series is that they were exploited for our entertainment without consent? Also not showing Tommy's abuse of Pam is particularly heinous. I think that a lot of ppl have skipped for exactly those reasons.

Seyfried's physical beauty has been like a red herring for me. While I've enjoyed her in her early roles, her looks - and I'm grossed out by myself for this - have distracted me, and, I'm guessing, casting directors, from her skill. The Dropout is balanced and engrossing, and Seyfried absolutely tranforms into this character in a sublime and magical way. She is flat out SPECTACULAR. At once relatable and contemptuous, her Holmes exists in a rare place which is difficult, challenging, and fiercely watchable - all at once. She should be lauded and awarded when awards season rolls in.

I started Pam and Tommy and it good but I prefer that series to go all at once for the nature. In the case of The Dropout, since I know a lot of the story I still wanna see it and this weekly episodes work for this IMO. I love McKinnon but if she was in it probably would've not watch it cuz of the feeling of watching SNL.

Spoiler-I just finished watching the entire series. One aspect I was disappointed in was why theranos couldn't get the Edison machine to work analyzing one drop of blood for 250 conditions? They alluded to it when Erica noticed they were diluting the blood with water and running the tests on third-party machines, Siemens. However they didn't explain why they were doing it. I think it's because you need a certain amount of blood to spin in a centrifuge to separate the particles to run the test. A single drop of blood would not be enough. And when they analyzed the diluted blood blood inaccurate readings occurred.

Agree it’s a fantastic series and Amanda Seyfried deserves awards for her phenomenal portrayal. I nearly didn’t watch as someone had said it’s too sympathetic but it’s not. It tells the vital story of corrupt people interfering with medical practice and putting peoples lives at risk.

I haven't finished the 1sr season of Tiger King. I'm actually looking forward to the scripted series. I watched the documentary of Inventing Anna on Netflix before the scripted series came on. I was excited for the scripted series. Watched it as soon as it came out. Not done though. I'm accustomed to watching things twice because I watch a lot of different language remakes. But it is easier to watch the same story twice if it set in a different country or if one is documentary and others scripted

I know what Holmes did through the book, podcast and documentary of HBO. It doesn't make sense to make a show or movie now because everyone more or less knows what she did. I think they should have made a show or a movie in 10 years when her case would have been done and dusted and people may have forgot who she was or to enlighten the new generation

Elizabeth Holmes did not “genuinely mean well” as stated in this review. This is an insult to those whom she purposefully victimized, knowing that her company had not mastered a technology that the public depended upon to make life and death decisions. This revisionist history of Holmes’ good intentions is unacceptable and extraordinarily disappointing.

There is a very good documentary on HBO MAX, so if you have access you might want to check that out before watching the series, it's very interesting to see the real woman. She is quite an odd person. It will be interesting to see if Amanda gets that part right.

I categorically disagree about the binge/weekly. You forget that you do not work anything aside from youtuber. But most of us do. Weekly release helps you watch more stuff and not staying behind. I have watched all episodes of Pam and Tommy, it is a terrific show and I adore it. It is not more popular due to the subject matter, not the weekly release. A good example of my words is how even you watched the second season of The Great with a huge delay. I am sure that The Great would do better as weekly release.
