The drumming is sick! || Reacting to Led Zeppelin - Royal Orleans

This song was Robert teasing John Paul Jones. When they went to New Orleans on tour, they would stay at the Royal Orleans Hotel and they loved going to gay bars to watch drag shows, etc., because they wouldn't get hassled there like they would going to regular clubs. In the song, the lyrics imply someone bringing back a girl - with whiskers. In an interview he gave to Mojo magazine in 2007, Jones clarified the reliability of this, stating: "The transvestites were actually friends of Richard Cole's (their tour manager); normal friendly people and we were all at some bar. That I mistook a transvestite for a girl is rubbish; that happened in another country to somebody else ... Anyway 'Stephanie' ended up in my room and we rolled a joint or two and I fell asleep and set fire to the hotel room, as you do, ha ha, and when I woke up it was full of firemen!" The "John Cameron" mentioned was a rival of Jonesy's from his session days.

Bonham heavy on the highhat cymbal giving that shuffling noise you're referring to. He's got the highhat slightly open, so when struck it muffles the sound a bit.

This is another gem that was never played live. A mix of funk, rock, and rockabilly. Bonzo adds a bit of conga to the rhythm. I still can’t get over how great Roberts vocals are on this album since he is in a wheelchair and in pain the whole time.

Great funky song. Bonzo is just on point with the drums. And not sure if you've mentioned it before but Bonzo was a unique drummer because he followed Jimmy instead JPJ which is what a drummer traditionally does. So the drumming mirrors Jimmy's riff. I never noticed it until I read an interview with Jones ages ago. When you relisten to their catalog listen for it and you'll hear it.

This album has some great "Pause" songs. "Nobody's Fault..." this one, and when u get to the funkiness unleashed that is "Hots on for nowhere," they do this stop/start thang which is cool. I guess the subject matter of "whiskers" could give pause/double-take as well, lol.
