The thing that’s fishy to me is that this was only uploaded on SoundCloud. And if you know anything on SoundCloud you know that you can change the file for a track and it doesn’t say so for all we know they could have heard it, made a song copying her, and than switched the file with the actual live your life track. Why was it not on Spotify or Apple or any other service? Like I’m not saying it’s a completely different song but it could have been a little bit of a different melody or rhythm and than they changed it and reuploaded it. How was it number 2 on the reggae charts yet it wasn’t on the more popular streaming services. It only has 200 plays on SoundCloud when levitating was written so I don’t know how they could have heard it. Dua has sampled before and given credit so why would she have not done it this time and also did they try reaching out to her for a co-writing credit before going to court? The only audio outside of SoundCloud you can find on the song came out in the last 3 days on KZbin yet in the lawsuit they say it’s been available on all streaming services since 2017. Also I looked up the reggae chart thing and can’t find any evidence of this chart existing. Billboard has a reggae albums chart but not a songs chart. There are videos showing how you can change SoundCloud audio and even though the song has been up for four years there was only a comment made after a lawsuit. There’s no way a song gets successful enough to chart that high and no one comments. Also, both songs literally sound like Rosa parks by outkast to me.

I think people have to understand that there is only so many notes on a keyboard, and eventually everyone will be just copyrighting eachother, I mean producers don’t get sued for using the same 808 or snare or sounds etc. let alone don’t get sued for using the same chord progression. This argument is stupid and they wouldn’t be sueing if this song was not a hit, they are just trying to steal some money for something as stupid as that.

The Artikal Sound System song is really similar to Levitating. And I listen to a lot of disco music. It's not out of the question that Dua Lipa's producers heard it

I absolutely despise music lawsuits. Every single one of them is absolute BS! I talked to someone who handles music lawsuits and even he agreed that most of these lawsuits are attempts from small artists to get clout (which NEVER lasts so why bother?) and should not be considered valid. They should really agree that "inspired" does not mean "copied," and they should have musicians on the jury that can look at this objectively and make a fair and logical decision! A "vibe" is not copyrightable, period.

I'm with you on this, but in this case it's way too similar to be a coincidence or just an influence...even with Adam Neely's breakdown and all that. She could've transposed the song up or down a half step so it sounds a little less blatantly obvious
@aleczen69732 жыл бұрын
@@chrilborn4138 This track is so obscure, anyone having heard it seems so unlikely, and here is the thing, the process for the creation of levitating is VERY well documented, there's recordings of dua coming up with the melody on the spot. The jury won't care, which sucks. And I think it can be a coincidence simply because the elements aren't that unique. I'd be into a indie band getting attention after being ripped off, but these guys suck, the clout chasing is so obvious.
@gibby33502 жыл бұрын
@@chrilborn4138 The thing is though, is there any possibility she or any other writers had heard that specific song before they wrote Levitating. As far as I understand, that group is really small and abstract and even now, they only have a few hundred followers. It just seems much more coincidental than a direct copy.

If we didn’t have these lawsuits, massive record labels and their wealthy pop stars/producers would have a free pass to just search up any obscure artist and rip most of their song without penalty. Some of them are BS but the similarities in this particular case are pretty evident, even if it’s just a coincidence.

The Don Diablo thing reminded me of Lily Allen's "LDN" as well. But only the Artikal Sound System song is really that similar to "Levitating" imo.

I think there’s a lot of lawyers that would be willing to take on this case just for the guaranteed bag at the end. Regardless of if it was intentionally copied or not, the song does sound veryyy similar

Bruno mars-24k magic Zara Larsson-rooftop / never forget you Bad 4 us-superfruit (similar belting section to the artikal song🙄) Calvin Harris-feels OutKast-rosa parks Artikal song Don Diablo song And the list could probably just keep going. I feel like levitating tapped into a vibe by curating sounds that would work like magic if altered and put into a different context and that lead to it’s crazy success. Disco party pop with a reggae adjacent flavor underneath and a “unique” delivery of some good pop lyrics. I think dua should be in the clear.

Also one of the producer's on Levitating is from Miami, and Artikal are apparently from South Florida, so maybe he's into local reggae (or was in 2017)?

Copyright of pop songs, which have far fewer variables than a deck of cards, seems almost silly, given the number of pop songs out there.
