It seems like a real workhorse!!! It’s great to see bikes of that era stand the test of time even though it requires a lot of maintenance, especially after being ridden so hard! However, that horn was a sight to behold!Awesome. 😎 ✌️

Excellent bikes, so happy they’re still available new in the USA. Original parts and aftermarket parts are readily available for this legendary bike. Really good job on the video, great work!

I got a 2018 DR650, tastefully modified into a light ADV, with 2500 miles in 2022. It currently has about 18k miles on it without having to touch the carbs. We can still get them in the States in 2025, with bold new graphics, otherwise they have been the same since 1996 😂. It isn't excellent at anything but being good at most everything. As my primary transportation, it's perfect for me. In 2023 I was rear-ended on it and I slowly repaired and got it legally on the road again. While repairing it I bought a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. That is the bike that brought me to your channel. I love both bike, but do find I gravitate to the DR650 most of the time now that it's repaired.

A very nice bike. Very popular and durable. Such bikes have a great value today. I filmed the 1990 model. It is not a lot different than this one. :) Nice video, like always. Cheers.

Can certainly confirm how versatile and rugged these bikes are as I had a 1993 Dr650Rse. It's off-road manners are excellent. Thanks for a professional review and wish Richard a safe and fun experience in Morocco 😊

All-time classic dual-sport bike! By the way - can you make a review of your LS2 helmet? Like to share your experience with it in various trips/circumstances. Is it noisy? How ventilation works in different weather conditions (like heat/cold/rain…) and so on…

The DR is still one of Australian rider's most popular bikes. Oz has loads of gear for the bikes and they have pretty much bullet proof reputation as being a bike that will always get you home from the outback!

They are far more reliable than you stated and that tank isn't stock. The stock tank is metal. Besides that, great review!

They are very very reliable. My Point was ment a big different. This bike is not reliable in the way that whitout giving it mutch thought it will always Fire up. It’s reliable in the way that if you know a thing or two to keep it Running it will be unstoppable but for that you need to be able to ocaisonaly work on a carburator or somthing of that sort
@SumoAustin
@SumoAustin 5 күн бұрын
Not true, the carburetor has long service intervals his was in need of service before he started the trip. The only wear items are the needle, plastic needle spacer, and plastic slide guide. Easily 16,000km-25,000km on those parts if the air filter is maintained.

I had a 1996 Dr 650 ... Everything worked perfectly never broke down ... But it'll never handle off-road like an XR600R Honda ... It will handle the same off-road conditions that the XR will do... But you're going to be going a lot slower to keep your balance... Which is okay has the dr650 Suzuki will run circles around the XR on back roads and highway... After only two weeks a break in on my brand new Dr 650... I found that it would do 115 mi an hour quite easily as I was topped out on interstate i-70 in no time doing roll-on from 70 mi an hour to 115 miles per hour top end every time I tried.... High speed dirt backroads you can easily throw slides at 100 mi an hour like Jay Springsteen on the mile... Careful with that front brake it's huge ... 40 mi an hour on rainy wet pavement with Dot knobbies .. my neighbor didn't see me and pulled out in front of me and I heard my collarbone breaking before I knew I fell. .. in a panic stop grabbing both front and rear brakes I locked up the wheels front and back . Sliding on my side and listening to my collarbone break in less tha😅n a second... But managed to stop well be for the car that could have been much worse.. don't buy Dot knobbies their hard carbon compound with much less traction on cold wet pavement... With the IRC Enduro knobby tires that came on an xr500r are much softer compound ..they only last for about 3,000 mi but they're sticky like glue on wet or dry hot cold pavement. .. take a look at some kids xr100 or xr200 who lives in a Urban environment paved streets ... His off-road only tires will be worn bald in the center and the bike will still handle about 80% able to negotiate well over the speed limit rain or shine ... Knobs or Enduro tires are all soft compounds that hooks up on hard pavement.. DOT tires that are supposed to be legal and safe for you are hard compounds high carbon content and will kill you when you least expect it. . Off-road tires are made for high speeds... The pros don't mess around with the Big bikes at over 100 off road .. buying tires for high mileage is asking for it tires that last half that long are much more sticky ... I'd rather only get 3500 to 5,000 MI with an off-road tire with way more traction than to be wearing a cast for 2 months... The older you get the longer it takes to grow your bones back together

If he had fully serviced the carburetor before the trip it wouldn't have needed to be touched again for at least 16,000 km. The plastic spacer on the needle is a consumable wear item.

Its up and running perfectly now, and should be for a long time. There was just so much at the same time with the carb it was exhausting, like with the needle, float and leaks all in one day.
@FreeMilesMC
@FreeMilesMC 14 күн бұрын
Don’t worry I am mostly fine with carburators it’s more for people who want to get a motorcycle so they know what they are getting in to. Someone who is used to carburated bikes is super fine with this. But someone who just got there license has a steep learning curve. I will actually make a Video on this at some Point in the future ☺️

Eh...A lot of hype, and it may be OK offroad, but it sucks if it gets anywhere near a highway. It's a 60MPH cruiser, but struggles at 70MPH (and struggles to pass anything at more than 70MPH). If the lack of speed and power aren't enough to concern you, then the vibrations should. They will numb your hands and feet within just a few minutes at high revs. It was OK on the trails. I am surrounded by gravel and it was fine on gravel and other trails, but nothing spectacular. I enjoyed lugging up hills, etc. I traded my 2023 DR650 for a 2024 Tenere. The difference is night and day, even off road, but especially on the highway. So what f I can't yank the carbs out of the Tenere? I'll be OK, and I will think about that every time I don't have to choke the Tenere to start it.
@SumoAustin
@SumoAustin 5 күн бұрын
I live in Texas and freeway traffic is 75-80 mph, my DR650 has no problem running those speeds with power to spare. The stock carburetor is not jetted for power however, it is set for emissions. Easily fixed, but replacing the carb with a Keihin FCR or Mikuni TM40 is the way to go, completely different bike with a flatslide installed.
