It's up to you to decide, but personally, I don't get why so many Christians chose the former when there's only one verse in the entire bible that speaks ill about homosexuals and a ton of other verses in it that tells us to not judge and instead accept people who are different.

I think those people should be alone forever. Sorry, just my opinion!" and then half-heartedly saying "well I *guess* I could be friends with an infertile couple, and I *suppose* if they invited me to their home I wouldn't make a point of rubbing their faces in the fact I believe their relationship is a sham and shouldn't be allowed" or even saying "I LOVE the infertile people in my life (I just don't believe they should be allowed to be in relationships but) I'm such a loving person!!!"......... I mean, you're not going to get arrested for saying that, nothing will happen to you. You have the right to hold that opinion. But of course most people will think you are a horrible two-faced person and not want to be around you, and will perceive you publicly stating those beliefs as extremely insulting to infertile people!! Do you see what I mean? As they always say: freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences. In this case the consequences are people around you feel hurt and disrespected and don't want to be your friend any more. Now imagine you took it further and didn't just insult infertile couples in your social circle but actually advocated and campaigned for political policies which would take away their right to be married (including the legal privileges and protections marriage entails, not to mention the emotional impact) because you "disagree with their relationships." Then infertile people would not only think you're a nasty person and not want to be your friend but would rightly feel that you are causing them very real harm. You can use the words 'polite disagreement' all you want and say "it's just how I was raised" and use 🤗 emojis till the cows come home, but in reality it is discrimination based on biological factors people have no control over. It's cruel, it's pointless and people have AT LEAST as much right to criticise you and refuse to associate with you because of it as you have the right to hold your opinions and vote for your chosen policies.

Where do they get that divorce is unforgiveable? And also, Anna is incredibly naïve if she hasn't even pushed for some kind of investigation into whether he was actually abusing their own kids. ANYWAY - yeah, he's doing sexual stuff outside of their marriage. I would think they would think this falls under the umbrella of adultery, Biblically permitting Anna to leave the marriage.

I think they separate the “action” of homosexuality from the fact of being gay. It’s like you don’t make the choice to be “same sex attracted” as they say but you make a choice to act on it. I personally don’t see much wrong with them thinking that acting on homosexual feelings is wrong as long as they don’t think being gay means you as a person deserve less rights or as long as they don’t hurt or Harass people because of those beliefs. To get caught up on them not being “perfect” allies is really dumb because a lot of lgbtq people aren’t good allies to other members of the community I mean bisexuality is like never even considered lol. Once they get more and more comfortable with deciding for themselves what they see as “sinful” (like how weird sins have been basically removed as sins) they can grow even more to understand the beauty of the lgbtq community.

So, I have a crazy insider connection to this case: one of my friends is a former Secret Service agent who moved to the DHS to investigate child porn/child sex trafficking cases online. He is one of the special agents who uncovered Josh Duggar's crimes. Although he can't give me any specific details (obviously), he did say it's probably the most horrifying case he's seen in his 7 years at this job. Really, really sick stuff.

Rumors say Josh was downloading hurtcore. The internet is littered with forums and communities of latent pedophiles who don't act upon those urges. And though they carry that dangerous paraphilia inside of them, they explicitly ban hurtcore from their sites and aggressively rat out anyone who dares post or advertise any. Hearing that even most pedophiles loathe hurtcore and condemn it as a bridge way too far even for them, it figures that whatever Josh was downloading would be the worst the Homeland Security agent has ever seen! And if law enforcement can FINALLY nail Josh, even inmates convicted of unrelated TYPES of crimes, who'd been railroaded by the justice system, would probably tear Josh apart out of resentment for all the lucky breaks he got between about '002 and '018.

"you cant disagree with someones humanity" hit me really hard. growing up in a very rural very evangelical christian/fundie environment as a lgbt person, its always been insane to me how people will say they "love" lgbt people but in the same breath they tell us that were going to hell and that our existence is a sin. its just such a strange mentality that some people in the fundie spaces have and weird to experience, like no you dont actually love me because if you loved me and my siblings in the community you wouldnt think that were going to burn in hell! anyway great video as always, hope all is well in life for you ❤

As a gay man who grew up in a very legalistic religious household, I think we should be cutting Jill some slack. People don’t wake up one morning and realize that everything they thought they knew was a lie and suddenly change all of their beliefs at once. Changing your worldview is a process and it isn’t always fast. It’s ok if the process of leaving behind oppressive religious views takes time. And I for one appreciate any movement away from bigotry. I’d much rather be in a room full of people who disagree with my sexuality but still see me as a person than in a room full of people who aren’t willing to discuss anything other than how I’m damned for being queer. Jill and Derek see their faith as an intrinsic part of their identity. Just like I see my sexuality as an intrinsic part of my identity. I can disagree with them and think that their most closely held beliefs are nonsense but still respect them and be cordial with them if I was to interact with them. What a relief to know that Jill and Derek would still want to be my friend despite the fact that I'm queer... or a murderer 🙄🙄🙄

I don’t know if you know this, but Emily D Baker is covering the legal side of the Duggar case. She’s a lawyer who focuses on explaining the legal language of the filings in well known cases (usually pop culture related).

I heard that Anna was, indeed, Josh’s accountabilibuddy, which is messed up since the IBLP teaches that if a husband strays, it’s the wife’s responsibility, since she must not be meeting his needs. What sort of accountability could she hold over him (since the “husband is the head of the wife”)?

Right? She needs to obey her headship, whom she must also hold accountable? How the fuck are any of them expecting that to actually work?

I grew up in a liberal Episcopal family but went Jesus Freak in college &, sadly, spent a few decades in the nondenominational world. I love your work - accurate, well-researched, intelligent, informative, & intriguing, (love both you & James. I'm still living in Tulsa due to financial constraints but left my church, my friends, & my political party since I woke up as I saw Trump was picking up speed in his presidential campaign & seriously contemplated Germany in the '30s. Glad to see you & others like you as I reconstruct my life on my own terms.

I understand your stuck in Tulsa feeling. I live 20 mins from the Duggars and have seen them in the wild on occasion at a local store (mainly Sam's Club). I am glad to know that some people even on the right had alarms go off on Trump, as I do not hear enough about that. Good luck on your journey, I know it is tough making a go of it on your own.

Jill and Derrick in that video sound a lot like me when I was in high school and transitioning from being a “straight” evangelical to a lesbian “chill Christian” to now a lesbian non-binary atheist I’m interested to see their evolving over the next few years

I know. I was raised in the IFB cult, and I went from a "straight" fundamentalist, to a chill Christian lesbian, to a nonbinary atheist lesbian. Everyone else is like "they're not accepting and are speaking condescendingly," but what I keep thinking is "but they're respecting pronouns," like, do you know how RARE that is for fundamentalist Christians? We're taught to believe that "calling people out on their sin" is the right thing to do, calling someone by their preferred pronouns is specifically seen as a BIG no no (because you're encouraging them to lie to themselves). I recognise it's a baby step, but coming from fundie culture, this is a HUGE baby step. Like, just having LGBTQ+ friends AT ALL (outside of the fundie bubble) . . . I don't think people who weren't raised IFB understand how HUGE this is. Those LGBTQ+ friends are no doubt making them question EVERYTHING they've ever been taught about that. Like . . . I realise it's still painful and they still have a long way to go, but as a former fundie, this is huge.
