*The Duke* - Mainly filmed in *Bradford* just like *Peaky Blinders* unlike what most people believe. They filmed in the *Bradford* locations of *Bradford City Hall, Cartwright Hall, Cannon Mills, Upper Piccadilly, Cheapside,* the mini neighbourhood of *Little Germany* etc plus I'm fairly sure they used a private, unnamed, backstreet location which hasn't been mentioned, which has been used for at least *2 films,* at least *2 music videos,* and the recently wrapped up 5th series of a *TV drama* (along with the surrounding streets). That private, unnamed, backstreet has most likely been used in more productions, which I haven't got around to seeing or updating on *IMDB* yet. I'm also fairly sure, but not certain, that they used a private *warehouse* which has been used in at least *3 TV shows.* That *private, unnamed, street,* and that *private warehouse* are just a couple of *Bradford's* countless filming locations which never get mentioned for some reason, yet are always spotted by me, however the warehouse has finally been mentioned by the media recently. There's also 1000's of *Bradford* shot *films, TV series, web series, one-off TV episodes, shorts, and music videos* which I know of, that the *City of Film* team clearly don't know about yet, or have forgotten about, even productions from the last 10 years which you'd expect them to keep a record of. However a possible 100, maybe even as many as 300, one-off shows which will never be shown again, and I haven't got around to updating on *IMDB* yet, I will never be able to update, as my laptop decided to become corrupted a couple of weeks ago, and wiped all the videos I had collected over the last few years. What type of one-off episodes you ask? Mainly documentaries, special news episodes, sports shows, short films which have since been deleted or made private, music videos which have since been deleted or made private, and a few TV dramas which aren't available to buy and haven't been shown since they were first shown on TV. *The Duke* also filmed in the *Leeds* locations of *Millennium Square, Holbeck Cemetery, Whitelocks Ale House, Hyde Park Picture House, Rider Road, Christopher Road* and all the connecting streets which have *Nosters* in their name.

Was gonna mention the 'Dr No' ...mention. In the doc's dining room Bond pauses and looks at the painting. Obviously implying No [or SPECTRE] have stolen it, as it was still missing in '62.

The thing about the Goya canvas is that he originally painted it as Napoleon but when the French were driven back by the forces under Wellington, he had to change the facial features to resemble Wellington but the head shape is still Napoleon's......Pablo Picasso would never have done that.

I agree with the Ealing comedy comparison but think it is a better film than is reviewed here. Broadbent's character is misguided and naive but honourable. His performance at the end where he literally plays to the gallery at his trial is reminiscent of Ken Dodd's at his own Crown Court tax evasion trial.

Does this film encourage middle-aged men to engage in criminal high-jinks in order to get a whimsical biopic made about them? I’d quite like to be played by Jim Broadbent… or even Helen Mirren.

Well, there were a grand total of eight folks at the screening today including myself and my better half, and I can only commend the other attendees on their good taste. A world away from the "bangs" and "kappows" of so much of modern cinema, this was a well told tale filled with expert performances. Jim Broadbent and Dame Helen Mirren naturalistically portrayed a couple held together by loyalty and inertia with a rare aplomb, the true story (one that I knew well from law studies over a quarter of a century ago) being a fitting backdrop to the human tale. I doubt it will last long at the big screen, but can only commend you to catch it if you can.

Great Film SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE NORTH EAST!!! . Its the only let down.!!. There characters reminded me much of Anne Karen's(who we only lost a few days ago) Olive and Hubby Arthur played by Michael Robbins from "On The Buses" Its right what you say Mark.. Its a right Ealing capper romp like The Ladykillers & Wrong Arm of The Law...You almost expect to see John Le Mesurier play the Judge ! Jim is spot on as Kempton even the accents right.. Just a shame Rodger Mitchell didn't shot it and use archive film from the North East afterall there is plenty

I don't know what the *Newcastle* looked like in the 60s, although from what I remember as a kid in the late 90s/early 00s, the city centre has the same sort of style as *Bradford* today, however the 141 square mile *City of Bradford* is cheap and can fit any type of scene you can think of apart from sea scenes obviously. Think of any *British period drama* from the last 10 years especially, and it will most likely have been at least partly filmed in *Bradford* contrary to what most people believe, as we're constantly ignored by the media. There's 1000's of *Bradford* based productions and locations I know of, which the *City of Film* team don't know about, or have forgotten about, as they've not been added to any of their websites. I've been slowly adding those productions and locations to *IMDB,* and have done over 100,000 edits in the last couple of years. I've added roughly *15 shorts,* and updated *1 feature film,* in the last couple of days alone, which were filmed in *Yorkshire* and the *Tyne and Wear,* mainly in *Bradford* and *Whitley Bay.*

I’m a bit fed up with the dramatic licence excuse in films. So many biopics and ‘based on a true story’ films are half made up. What is the point.
@charliepanayiotou43052 жыл бұрын
If you want a documentary, watch a documentary. (also the main issue with biopics isn't dramatic licence, it's that they all hit the same dull beats over and over)
@costeris352 жыл бұрын
@@charliepanayiotou4305 It doesn’t have to be a documentary to have some integrity. Films that have all the look and feel of a true story, that never indicate that they are diverting from what actually happened, but invent romances, tragedies or motivations to make the story hit those beats you mean are starting to annoy me. This level of invention would be bloody suprising in a biography in book form.

I know what you mean, I find it especially jarring with biopics because they are based on specific people and use that creative license to create a (often dishonest) narrative about a real person.
