I think the worry is someone will get into a fight these days and yelling at fans/causing a Malice at the Palace level fight won’t have any suspensions for getting in the audiences face. It’s most likely still there so they have something on the books to throw at someone who crosses a line.

I'm glad that the last rule isn't really enforced. The last game that I went to was a Nats vs Mets game, and there was a line of kids sitting in left field waiting for Lindor to sign their ball/glove/hat before the game. It was a really nice thing to see. It's always great to see players being nice to each other because of all the clips of them yelling at each other. If you think people being nice is a bad look, you should do something about the umpires, because their ejections for no reason are a bad look

That last rule is so bogus. As a huge hockey fan, a big part of it that I love is that these big, tough strong athletes often play around and have fun with each other during down time, plus, seeing any athlete give a young fan a piece of game used memorobilia or even just a head scratch is always heartwarming. These are things that humanize these athletes

If you want to know more about Eddie Gaedel, give me a shout. He was my Grandpa's brother. He dropped the last E from his name because he didn't like people saying it wrong. I'm one of a few Gaedeles out there. A few years ago St. Louis brought me and some family members out to Busch Stadium and honored Eddie's legacy (small as it is, pun intended) by bringing us out on the field and giving away Eddie bobbleheads.

Not sure you are entirely correct about 'the only ambidextrous pitcher in MLB history'. Ever heard of Greg A Harris? He was actually quite the ambidextrous pitcher, but for most of his career his team wouldnt allow him to pitch lefty. September 28, 1995, while with the Montreal Expos. In the ninth inning, Harris retired Reggie Sanders pitching right-handed, then switched to his left hand for the next two hitters, Hal Morris and Ed Taubensee, who both batted lefty. Harris walked Morris but got Taubensee to ground out. He then went back to his right hand to retire Bret Boone to end the inning. Harris's glove, which was custom built with an extra thumb so that it could be worn on either hand, is now on display at the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Players weren't aware of the rule that allows them to stay at the game, ( in street clothes, in the stands)after being ejected? I bought the rule book to read more about catcher indifference. But the ejected player rule has stuck in mind for decades. I had no idea there were so many interesting, unique rules. Baseball is beautiful and anybody who says it's boring knows nothing about the game.

Big fan of the channel and the way you tell the hidden stories in baseball! I remember doing a paper in college on the various ways players have bent the rules across baseball’s history, so it’s great to see you cover the other end by noting how silly those rules can be sometimes. Just as one small note, while this video was a fun change of pace, I do hope you still keep using the intro format (and music) that you’ve used before, since that always set the mood in an awesome way. Even better if you can bring back the beat drop you used to do at the end of the intros, that was always a highlight for me! 😊

It was no surprise they went without winning for decades, you should have seen their Spring Training facilities. I was an AT in the Florida State league in the late '80's. I have been in camping ground toilets in the middle of the effing swamp that were nicer. Very small, all concrete hovels. No AC, (Florida summer = 98⁰ & 99% humidity), water on the floors from leaking showers & doors that didn't shut completely, let alone any security. Players didn't bother to shower. You'd be drenched before you got dressed. Half a$$ ice machine, no real training room. It was disgusting. I don't know when they finally bulldozed it all, but I bet it coincided w/ them finally winning!

13:05 is actually the first time this happened in baseball history on a pitched ball. Due to their being no official rule on using detached equipment on a pitched ball, umpiring crew chief Harry Wendelstedt ruled that based on common sense and fair play, each runner should be awarded one base. The rule was amended to the OBR the following season. Base awards for that particular rule are: three bases on a batted ball, two bases on a thrown ball, and now, thanks to this particular instance, one base on a pitched ball

Two things can be correct. In NHL hockey, a lot of players clearly understand that they can be friends and play hard when the puck drops. There are players that are friends and have physically punched each other in the face, to defend the teammates they have a signed contract with (their teammate). A lot of humans are evolved enough to be able to function in this way. It's people who can't tell the difference that think it's genuinely possible to "ban" players from opposite teams from being friends. It's also totally correct for that last guy to be enforcing the rule as much as he can, because we also like to gamble on sports. As long as he is doing his job, and people know when "friendly" players cross the line, we can leave things the way they are. I like the way it is in hockey, at least. Players often talk at center ice during the warmup. Sometimes it's angry, and sometimes it friendly. Playoffs, when it matters most, it's usually more angry, because players know when it is, and isn't appropriate to be friendly.

This has probably been pointed out already but, isn't "clowning around" with opposing team members part of true sportsmanship? To be 100% serious about the game, yet still have a good time. As for the fans, there's not much that will make a fan's day/year/life more than having a player interact with them in some way. And a player giving a hug, a jersey, a ball/puck to a child is something that the child will remember all their life. Who wants to put an end to that?

Going back to the bullpen with a mustache and glasses on is especially dumb because ejected managers still manage the game via a walkie talkie from the broadcast in the clubhouse.

Stg MLB is doing everything it can to cling on to its last remnant of "old baseball" and make everything as "professional" as possible.

that fraternization rule was the worst... players are expected to show no emotions and never talk and just quietly walk off the field after the game

Totally fine with the 3-base error for throwing your glove at the ball. Defenses shouldn't be allowed to bail themselves out by throwing their glove to stop the ball's progress.

I'm really surprised that nobody got those newer AR air glasses to use in the dugout. Not a single person would ever know that their watching youtube or scrolling the internet or even playing video games. They look just like regular sun glasses to other people who look at you, but what you're really looking at is a 4K, 300 inch IMAX screen!! They're insane!! They're pretty much like those VR headsets, but instead of having a big heavy bulky box hanging on your face, these are literally just sun glasses. And yes!! You can even still see everything going on around you!! I was blown away when I heard about them!! And They're cheap!! They're only like 350 dollars!! If you don't know what I'm talking about theyre called "Xreal AR Glasses." Look em up and you'll be shocked!! If I was in the MLB and never got any playing time and had to sit in the dugout, I would absolutely 10000% be wearing these glasses!!

Switch pitching is an awesome thing, but I can completely agree with the rule, because it leads nowhere really, *really* fast. I like that they're forced to pick a pitching arm and stick with it, unless that arm is injured. That seems completely fair. Let's talk about the ear-flap thing. It's for protection. Did they know that the brim is for protection, too? Putting a helm on backwards means that there is far less protection. Those bills and ridges were used on helmets thousands of years ago to deflect hits and save a person's life. These helmets provide the same safety. If a ball is, on average, thrown faster than a person drives, I think that it must be a part of the game. I think it should be okay for the batter to carry two helms to the box if the MLB is not requiring a two-flap rule for switch hitters. Safety first, my friends. Next: work hours are work hours. Leave the games for when you're off. Please. You're taking away from your training and you're giving us less of an experience, watching you play "baseball" instead of it being your profession. You're paid a lot of money so people can watch you play the sport you're contracted to play. So, just do it. If you don't like it, join eSports. Yes, if you play a game that requires you to use your hands 100% of the time, doing something else that requires your hands can injure you. Players that go on the IL for extracurricular activities shouldn't be paid at all. I feel that cleats needing to represent 51% of your team's colors is a good rule. Unless something else dictates otherwise, like "Cancer Awareness" where pink is allowed. Even in games, I don't interject my favorite color simply because; I follow the rule that it must represent your current team. The only time I say it's okay is when a rookie goaltender from the NHL is called up and they have the affiliates colors (or any, based on where they usually play). All social media should be banned by all sports. No phones when playing. Period. This is just common sense. Throwing your glove up to stop a ball? This is a good rule. Automatic triple. Sounds severe, but throwing your glove up to stop a ball that is going to field or be a home run is absurd and stupid. This is a good rule. Really? Fake stashes just to stay in the game? Bro, you were ejected for a reason. While I tip my hat to the audacity and cleverness, I have to stand by the rule. But, again, I tip my hat to you. Not touching home plate follows the same rules as first base. You simply have to cross the threshold with your body. I don't see this as an issue. Not touching bases on a homerun (outside of home) is something that I feel should be an issue. Touch *all* bases after a homer. Simple. The rule awarding bases because of fans makes all kinds of sense. I don't care what people say (coming from a pure hockey fan), baseball is *still* America's game. I'm all about being inclusive (by realistic standards, not this bullshit we're dealing with today about exclusion not hidden as inclusion). If a woman thinks she's good enough to play majors, let her try. But little folks kinda need their own league. Dwarfism is something we all should acknowledge and never judge against, but when a batter is far shorter than the average, they have a very distinct advantage, and that is not allowed. Being too tall can fall under this category, but an 8 footer versus a 6'2 player is negligible versus a person who stands less than 4 feet. Pitchers aren't built for this, and the game hangs in drastic favor towards the batter at that point. No offense, they would suck at any outfield position, and would only be designated hitters, just to irritate pitchers and get someone on base, which they would promptly replace with a runner. There is no fairness here on any level. The illegal shit at the end? I'll dedicate money of my measly paycheck so that fans get the memory of their lives. MLB can suck donkey stuff. I remember loving the Beltare stuff live, as well as Biggie Ortiz giving the Angels props, or any other player he met that he used to game with. People talk about the best players? Jeter? Yes. His ability to stay off the radar was amazing. But Ortiz made the game about the game, and loved it, despite the fact he played against those he used to game with. This needs to end. Let them be them; they play the game because they love to and can make good money doing it. Why should that stop because of some arbitrary rule made a long time ago about gambling? Sure, it's still in the game, but I can name a few players and managers who do not hold the love of the game for the fans that have been flagged for this shit. As a whole? Great video, my friend. Live long, love well, and keep making stuff we all enjoy.
