It's a typical public opinion/greed thing which is refelcted by todays governments. While the bridge between the two timelines existed, there was a "threat" that needed addressing. As soon as the bridge collapsed, all the governments were concerned about was their respective economies because the percieved threat that the time travellers had made them aware of, was no longer there for all to see and/or was no longer in the politicians own interests to pursue.

Quick question: if there are only half a million people left in the future, why not evacuate them to the present? You could then use their tech and knowledge of future events to solve concurrent problems and prepare for the invasion. At the very least, they tried to explain this in the movie with all future soldiers being younger than 30 and all conscripts being dead before the war with the whitespikes starts. But that's it. It still doesn't make sense why they didn't send staff and research into the past where it would be far safer, with more resources, and time that was bought by the time travel machine. The biggest flaw in this movie is assuming Universe A (2022) would willingly send ALL of their combat capable citizens to help Universe B. In reality they would have quickly realized that saving the future does absolutely nothing for them and promptly told their future visitors to pound sand. After that they would probably have just scoured Siberia until they found the ship and then nuke it to oblivion.

@@coleeto2 true to some extent. Still those people could be useful for preparations of upcoming war, like expanding war and other industries, building fortifications, scouring Siberia in order to find the enemy while it's asleep and end the war before it starts. The movie is dumb because there wasn't given any reasonable idea/plan how those draftees could help either 2021 or 2051 world. Later on we get some sort of reasonable idea that draftees can help delay 2051 onslaught giving enough time to build a superweapon that wins the war. The problem with this is why didn't 2051 world give info about their weapon and technology to 2021 world. Both worlds could've pooled their resources and possibly finish the weapon faster. Or at the very least 2021 world would be saved with some survivors of 2051 world. That bugged me the most that 2051 didn't share their secret weapon basically dooming 2021 world to the same fate as theirs if the enemy wouldn't be found while they're asleep.

My biggest issue with this movie was the ending. Crisp Rat comes back from the future knowing exactly where the alien ship had landed. He tries to bring the info to the government but despite good reason to believe him and their previous willingness to throw thousands of lives at the future war, they suddenly have no interest in stopping the same thing from happening in their timeline. So then Chris Pratt goes to kill the mothership on his own instead and very nearly fails which would have started the invasion early in his timeline. It's hard to say who is more incompetent: The future military command, the present military command, or Chris Pratt's character who I refuse to Google the name of. The one good thing I can say about this movie though is that the creature design was top notch. that's probably the only reason I watched it to the end.

The humans actually have an "Edge of Tomorrow" advantage over the aliens. In 2051, gather all the info on the enemy and send it back to 2022, along with plans for weapons and the time machine. Prepare for 26 years, prudently building one or more time machines. Fight the enemy. If humanity is losing again, send the corrections back to 2022, and start over. Eventually humanity wins. It's just like the "Mimic" advantage in "Edge of Tomorrow", only the reset is 29 years instead of 24 hours.

So they kind of gloss over it pretty quickly in the film, but its implied that they don't want doubles of people either in the future or in the past. So the only soldiers they sent back were to young to have been born yet and the only people they sent to the future were those that had died by that time. Two of the characters theorize it is to prevent some kind of paradox but its never confirmed and it still presents somewhat of an issue because the soldiers they did send back in time ended up stuck in the past, so presumably their younger selves will be born at some point. There are some neat ideas/concepts but I'd say its just an OK movie with some fun action. In some ways I think its realistic in just that a lot of mass human endeavors, including war, is often completely bungled and results in a lot of unnecessary death, so I don't think that doesn't quite make sense, but theres plenty of other things that fall apart if you think about it.
@cfdfirefighter
@cfdfirefighter 3 жыл бұрын
Because not everyone can go back in time. Only those that are not alive in that timeline can go there. Only people who were dead in the future were able to go forward, and only those not born yet are able to go back. So many of those people who are able to go back are necessary to the defense of 2051, meaning if they just left, the rest would be doomed for sure. This guy misses the whole part about that and just says the militaries of the world are destroyed. That’s not true. Only those in the military who are dead in the future could go. So those were exhausted. Then the whole point of the conscripts was to find people who can pull a trigger to help keep the tides at bay. Also this author kept bringing up tanks as if a slow moving, slow traversing vehicle could keep up with the white spikes. There is likely a reason only light vehicles are still around. Everything else is just a tuna can for spikes to peel.

You (and the guy who made the video) are missing the vital part here: They are only sending people/soldiers to fight in the future, who already was dead from other causes _before_ the war started. If you are preparing for a war some 30 years from now, but dies 10 years from now, all that preperation and you, would be wasted, unless you could travel to the future of course... This was also the reason they couldn't send as many trained soldiers from 2022 to the the future, because soldiers are generally younger, so less of them would be dead in 2051, so they eventually needed to use older, ordinary people.(which is where the movie starts)

Because those who time travel cannot exist in time at the point they are travelling to. it is the entire reason why they are only drafting older people, who would have all died before the Whitespikes invaded. It is also the reason why all of the military from the future that travelled to the present are so young, in the present they were not born yet. Evacuation would not work because most of the population in the future would not be able to time travel to the present, and if those who could stay here as refugees, their present counterparts would eventually be born, killing one or both of them.

The entire time travel story would have make sense if "the future" was the one prepared by another "future2" but still fail because they fail to find where the monster came and shown that nuking entire continent still didn't work somehow. So instead they want to make bio weapons but need people to be bait, people who going to die anyway in normal timeline, for them to lure and capture a queen to develop a toxic weapon for bomb and bullets. And the plot twist, the present is still doom. But they pass what they learn and have to the next timeline. Repeating the cycle, but every time, their chance of winning increases by 5%. Basically mass effect storyline, except instead of ending the reapers. The story is about prometians last fight against the reapers.

Did folks watch the movie? I don't want to spoil anything, but the dialogue of the movie and the actions that take place explain the two timelines and how they work together. I highly recommend watching the movie, as there's what's being told publicly and what is being done covertly. In the end, it's kind of a silly action movie, but the premise of it makes sense within the rules established in that movie. Analysis done on the "rules" of time travel that don't use the rules established in the movie are kind of bunk in my opinion. For instance, don't apply Warhammer Fantasy Logic to WoW. The both include orcs, humans, dwarves, and "elves" but the worlds are built on different rules and should be treated as such. This movie is the same.

The suits don't really care about how consistent the story or bulletproof the logic is, they care about return of investment. The thing is also, some of the studios are trying strongly to go against traditional theater chains in order to bypass them entirely in future (so they don't have to pay them and rather show them at the streaming services they own themselves). It is similar with the Black Widow movie. So they are probably also even fine with taking in some losses on some of these movies since they are more interested in just getting audiences to stay away from theaters and use their streaming services instead in the long run. Amazon is totally a company that is fine with incurring losses on several products if that means weakening its competition in the long run, in this case it is also a competition between streaming services (Amazon, Disney) and theatre chains in a post-covid world, they are smelling a chance there.

I love how the F-22s at 8:40 are just dropping hellfire missiles out like they are unguided bombs. There are so many ways to represent a realistic saturation bombardment on a city, and they clearly have the CGI budget. Why did they choose the wrong aircraft to incorrectly deploy the wrong kind of weapon in the least realistic manner?
@Hedgemech
@Hedgemech 2 жыл бұрын
In fact, why F-22s at all? F-22s are massively complicated aircraft, which require huge amounts of resources to keep running - resources which the future population base can't afford. They also have capabilities which are completely useless - the White Spikes can't fly, so what use is stealth, ECM or supercruise? Instead do it with DC3s or the equivalent. Cheap to build and maintain, rugged, capable of carrying a far greater payload, multi-role - and just as immune to the White Spikes as an F-22. You could literally have a guy pushing C-4 bricks out the back and it would be better than a flight of Raptors...

@@Hedgemech Perhaps they use them for their speed? They also maintain a time machine on a gigantic oil rig surrounded by mines and several tall fences. People are usually entirely unaware of the kind of distances involved in modern combat. When Jarhead ended without the protagonist firing a single shot in anger, people thought that was the case for him, not the majority of the solders, who simply went through the wreckage left after artillery, missile and aircraft sorties. Add to that that it doesn't really make for compelling fiction to have soldiers firing at some windows in the distance where they saw some movement for half an hour, before deciding whatever was there is probably dead or gone and moving on. What then some dude doing a 14 hour shift as a glorified Uber Eats driver, flying bombs in and then going to replenish. But yeah. Super dumb moves made in this movie. If nothing else, they could have just time traveled all of the survivors of the future back to Earth and then fortified it for the potential future. I haven't seen the movie, but it seems to me that at least some of the factions' motivation would make more sense if they just kept the 2051 (A) and 2022 (B) universes as completely separate. The Resistance knows that giving 30 years of prep time to 2022 is all fine and dandy for Universe B... but it does nothing to help Universe A, the timeline they actually care about. So, they withhold their future intel as a bargaining chip for Universe B's resources. Now, each side has something the other needs. It paints the Resistance as more selfish and even villainous, but that could be developed into an interesting plot about the ethics of saving your own reality at the expense of another. Of course, this still completely ignores the larger problem of why the resistance needs the random citizenry of 2022 instead of literally any tank but it might at least go some way into making things less confusing.

And changing the past would either do nothing or undo everyone who lives there anyway. What if you had everyone from 2051 flew to 2022. The. The refugees and heads of the resistance spend the next twenty years using everything they know to help prepare. That way when you do the big blockbuster invasion break out you could have an interesting mix of people fresh to the alien fight as well as now older resistant members.
