I'm with Emil on the AI stuff. We don't ask 'why?' anymore. We are just in a chaotic stage of hyper-development where we all trying to achieve these illusive and incomprehensible goals, that truly only exist to develop profits. Governments are powerless and completely inept in dealing with anything to do with AI development or safety. And to me, it is all tied in to the TikTok and Instagram addiction too. As individuals we can't look away, and we have no idea why we are doing anything anymore. We are constantly de-humanising all aspects of our existence, and AI is only accelerating this. Like I don't get why Ben would want to develop music directly from his brain, the joy is learning, developing, and then sharing the skills you crafted over time. It also makes us appreciate the talent, dedication, and ingenuity of others. However, now we are more interested in eradicating the gap between thought and output. But again, why? To me it just feels like the eradication of experience, purely for sake of profit.

Just curious: what are some practical application of Ai? It seems to me like Ai’s usefulness is overinflated. Yes, it is a great tool to aid human knowledge and efficiency, but I don’t think it completely replacing anything. Ai still requires an intelligent human to create intelligent responses and increase efficiency. I don’t for-see that changing anytime soon, but of course, I could be wrong.

My phone broke and I had to drop it off at the Apple Store for like 3 hours while it was repaired and I hung out at the mall for those three hours and I learned a few things from the whole thing 1) having maps for navigation is a huge safety net if you’re not great w directions like me 2) I needed a watch because i relied on my phone to tell time 3) waiting in lines/ eating alone in a food court without scrolling on your phone makes you feel really alien but also much more tuned in to the world

i deleted tiktok mid-2022 because it was messing with my head. now im addicted to instagram reels instead. sometimes i feel like the internet/social media is a curse, and this is coming from someone who was basically raised on the internet (2000 kid). yes i made so many friends online and yes ive learnt so much that i wouldnt have known otherwise but my brain is SCRAMBLED. i'm in college for a bachelor of design rn and i can barely focus on my shit these days. i had to consciously disengage from a whole bunch of online design/career communities on social media because it was again, horribly messing with my head i want a flip phone but i can't commit because i need whatsapp for family and spotify for music. i dont know what to do
@mar-iq9xv9 ай бұрын
I would recommend deleting instagram. I used waste sooooo much time on Instagram reels after deleting tik tok but I find myself going on my phone for only 1-2 hours now that I don’t have the instagram app. I’ll still occasionally use the website on safari but it’s not as “fun” or stimulating as the app because the experience isn’t as smooth ig? It’s super annoying to use on my phone so I don’t spend much time on it. I’m also in university and it’s helped me out sooo much! I haven’t had tiktok for like 2 years (??) and deleted instagram mid February and I already have an increased attention span and actually find fun to study and learn new things :)

I know it’s not the perfect solution, and it still kinda sucks, but try deleting social media except WhatsApp and spotify from your phone. If you really need instagram or something else, access it using a computer or laptop. It makes it so you don’t constantly have that ability in your pocket to access it. Like I use Instagram mainly for communication with a few friends and for learning about local events and shows. So I’ll still look at it from time to time when I need on my laptop.

I am in the exact boat as you. it’s lowkey scary how much I relate. I am also college student studying design struggling with my relationship to social media. I have deleted instagram today and that was that last social media platform I used. I am worried about my career because I feel like having a digital identity is crucial for our career, especially as designers. But at the same time I know how negatively social media and digital connectivity is affecting me and the human race. At this very moment personally I need to take a step back and disconnect but it is becoming more and more difficult when society it normalizing and allowing it to consume every moment of our lives.

I think, ultimately, yeah getting rid of TikTok (and all social media really) would be beneficial for us as a people. Shit is toxic and rewiring everyone’s brains. BUT I feel so bad for the genuinely talented content creators on it who will be left hoping their audiences follow them on other platforms. It was so sad to see talented people from Vine just lose everything when that shutdown. So many didn’t manage to make the transition from Vine to other platforms.

As a software engineer I think Antrophic claiming Claude demonstrated self-reflection or a world view is just garbage marketing. What these systems fundamentally do is calculate the next word based off their training data. If their training data has enough examples of someone saying “You tried to trick me” after a tricky question they will eventually spit out a response like that. They are probability based systems. Publishing stories like this is free marketing for Anthropic because they’re so sensational. These tools aren’t being built for average people, they’re being built to be flashy for investors.

Having to conciously choose not to look at your phone or pick it up is fine and reasonable considering the level of technological advancment we live with. Theres mothing wrong with having to employ self control to avoid things that tend to waste time. Thevactual issue is that no one wants to make the effort to learn how to adjust those habit forming and self co trolling behaviors to the new circumstances in which humanity is adapting. Decade over decade the needs of those habits change and must be adapted appropriately but no one wants to take those steps so we end up shaming ourselves and others for having trouble with it. @@hend0wski I can’t imagine WE can personally restructure the society.
