I was the same age as these kids. Our teacher used to joke if we got something wrong “oh you’ll have me shot at dawn you lot!” The day after she came in the classroom sobbing and said “I will never say those words ever again” I met her a few years ago and she said it was the worst time of her life and that if this had happened at our school she would have given her life to save every one of us.

I would have happily gone to jail to stop that bastard. I watched a close friend's marriage fall apart and her go through hell because of Hamilton. Whether you believe me or not, I couldn't care less, but I can assure you very many lives were changed that day and not for the better. They said that there were rumours and reports about him going back 25 years , but nothing ever happened because I quote 'he had friends in the right places.' I have vague memories of this. I was about their age, and all I can remember is it feeling odd. The teachers seemed a bit odd (as in, twitchy) and then when we left school my mom properly held me and my sister. More than usual. We were hundreds of miles away, and I don't think a parent or teacher wasn't affected by this that day and the days afterwards.

My workmates son was murdered by Hamilton that day. He was never the same after this.His marriage fell apart and he moved away. That been said on the anniversary last year Lorraine Kelly met him and went cold water swimming with him in loch Lomond. I remember where i was, what i did next after i heard the awful news..so sad. The potential links Hamilton had probably explained why after having his firearms confiscated after holding members of his local club at gun point. He appealed to the chief constable who told them to give them back. Under the existing laws there was more than enough cause to deny Hamilton his firearms. The local police who licensed him would have been well aware of his history with young boys and had multiple witnesses at his gun club. The burden of proof to deny someone a firearm is much lower than the standards in criminal court. The fact is no new gun legislation was needed, there was already ample laws in place to keep people like Hamilton away from firearms but they were not applied. The same with the weirdo in Plymouth in 2020 - he assaulted two boys in the park. The police took away his shotgun and then gave it back even though they were well within their rights to confiscate it permanently and revoke his certificate. Derek Byrd in Cumbria likewise was under criminal investigation for tax evasion at the time. I forget his name now, the man who committed the Hungerford massacre - he would probably have not been stopped. About the only thing people said about him was that he had an unnatural relationship with his mother. Brevik in Norway to. He was "odd" but nothing that would have prevented him from being licensed although oddly enough social services in Norway knew he had been horrifically emotionally abused by his mother - a fact which was suppressed at his trial for the sake of her "dignity" even though that witch created the worst mass killer in Norwegian history. I remember this. I was young but at roughly the same time there was a machete attack on a school in my home town and after that I remember there being more stringent security measures at my school. They improved the fence, the doors and would lock the gates except at certain times of day.

On a couple of trips to the US I spoke with quite a number of US Police Officers regarding mass murders by gunmen. They have an unwritten policy of not referring to the offenders by name, after all, in general they crave publicity. Instead they are referred as the 'Murderer of.......' or the 'Perpetrator of ....killings', They said they prefer to refer to the victims by their names, so they are never forgotten. I remember seeing this on the news when it happened. I had just turned 11 a few weeks before and can remember from what I had seen, being scared to go to school the next day. It is something I will never ever forget and those poor defenceless children will never be forgotten.

I come from Dunfermline, not far from Dunblane. My dad’s colleague, who worked for BT, was in charge of installing more telephone lines at the school that day so that people could call from all over the world. My dad’s friend’s son attended the school and gun shots were being fired at his classroom window from the gymnasium. The poor boy wet himself for weeks after the incident due to the trauma. I, along with my friends at Dunfermline High School, started a petition to ban handguns in the UK and sent the petition off to Downing Street. I’ll never forget when the news broke and my mother and I watched in horror and utter disbelief. We couldn’t believe it was all happening near to us. Shootings are unheard of in this part of Scotland. My brother and I paid a visit to the school, and, although it’s all in the past, and the school has moved on since then, you couldn’t help but feel utter sadness for all the wee children who had lost their lives and their heroic teacher.

This incident doesn't get discussed that much in the UK, except when it comes up in profiles of Andy Murray who was a pupil there when it happened. It's in the category of those events like the Chatham bus disaster and Aberfan that are so hideous we collectively try to forget about them. This one is particularly awful because it was deliberate.

My friend was killed in New York by a stray bullet which came through his hotel room window. Maybe if that happened to the sons and daughters of the NRA they might value life more highly?

I remember the sports shooting events at the 2012 London Olympics originally could not take place in the UK until the government gave a special permit for them to be held in an army barracks under strict security by the military.

@@Ozymandias1 Glad to see that SOME country has the balls to control weapons. I served in the US military, and before I was deployed to South Korea, I was only allowed to qualify with the .38 pistol. The military decided that I didn't have a "need" to qualify with the M-16. (That, despite the ever-present danger of being invaded and overrun by North Korea.) But the average 18-year-old civilian--who can't even buy a legal drink--can legally buy an AR-15 or AK-47. Why does a civilian have more of a "need" to shoot a quasi-military weapon than I did in the military? We have truly taken leave of our sense in America.

I was 12 when this happened my mum is Scottish although we live in England , I remember this being allover the news and it really effecting my mum greatly. She was deeply upset about it. He was pure evil. The image at 4:20 gives me the shivers. You can see he’s having sick thoughts about those kids.

My mother was a head teacher in a primary school about 2 miles from Dunblane. When this was all going on nobody knew Hamilton had killed himself. My mother was told to bolt the school doors in case he had planned to attack more than Dunblane PS. An absolutely horrific event which no matter how hard you try you'll never begin to comprehend the impact it had on Dunblane and the surrounding areas.

Me & my wife are from nelson in lancashire & we stayed at the old church in dunblane for new year eve hogmanay in 2019 & we went to the cemetery & primary school & we looked at each of the headstones of the children & Mrs mayor as a mark of respect & we 10:07 laid a big bunch of flowers down on Mrs mayors resting place as a gesture of love for them all ❤️ xx

Remember the day well. I was in 5th Year at high school in Motherwell, Scotland. My friend and myself went up in his car to my Mum's work at lunchtime to grab a bite to eat (a shop that sold hot and cold food) and as we walked in the women that worked there were all in floods of tears, the man who ran it looked in shock. The full details were starting to filter out on the radio. The place was busy, but came to a complete standstill. It took me a while to process the info, it just seemed so unbelievable, bizarre, unreal. Dunblane is a lovely wee place, but will forever only bring one thing to people's minds when it's mentioned.

I believe (with respect to all these incidents) in the US the culture of "me, me, me" creates a situation where typically the shooter goes on a rampage for political, social, selfish reasons where they want the spotlight and to be remembered as "important". In the UK people tend to be more anonymous and just want to live their best lives. Maybe that's why this man (piece of human sh!t) simply went in and did what he did then offed himself. I don't know but I know there is a drastic cultural difference between the UK and the US

My aunt and uncle's surname is Hamilton and this event was so appalling that it was necessary for them to change their name for ridicule, hate and persecution it could have caused. In fact my aunt's father who died in 1992 had the same name Thomas Hamilton. I can't imagine if he was still alive in 1996 when this happened how it would have affected him.

He lived in my neighbourhood. I was in primary 6 at the time of the shooting, but in Stirling. It's a really creepy feeling knowing that this guy was walking about our youth club organisations back then. I went to the scouts in St. Ninians around the time too. I still remember the little white coffins being driven by our house.

I'm convinced that this narcissist blamed all of his woes on the children (which is typical of people like him), and not on his actions towards young boys in the past. These days in Scotland, you need a licence to own an air rifle. Meanwhile London has a serious problem with pistols, because wierdly criminals don't bother with licences. Fortunately, schools all over the UK started taking security seriously. Until then, entry gates were left open all day, CCTV was rare, there really was nothing to stop loonies wandering in off the streets.

Yeah. The air rifle licensing came in because a small boy was killed with one. It's fairly easy to get an air rifle or a shotgun though. You just have to provide justification, not have a criminal record or history of violence. Justification is needed but it's just to prevent them being in the cities, in the countryside all the farmers have guns and hunters can keep rifles in a club or hire them for hunting.
