A shiny round island floats on a lake in the Netherlands, covered in dozens of shimmering solar panels. This is the PROTEVS system, one of many new solar farms. But, perhaps not the most productive. What is the power of 73 kW compared to the now largest farm in China of 320 megawatts? Well, PROTEVS can boast of some other advantages. This is a project where the panels do what no other floating solar power plant can. What makes it unique and how can it change the entire industry of solar power plants on water? Watch this video! Over the past 10 years, the total power of photovoltaic cells in the world has increased twelvefold. And if that doesn't impress you, then consider the following: by 2030, existing capacity must increase sixfold if we are to stay on track to zero emissions. If you still have no idea what this means, we will let you know. Huge solar farms will occupy an area six times larger than now! And if we add here the rapid growth of the world's population and the impending food crisis, then won’t it be more logical to use this land for agriculture?

This is a very good innovation and will greatly benefit the people of the world and most of all our mother Earth! Singapore and Netherlands are now into it. I hope the other countries also do the same. Thanks for uploading this very sensible video! Bravo! 👏👏👏

If you're going to put something in water seems like there a lot of tidal techs coming out right now, also idea this has been shown to be effective by planting low crops under solar panels. Panels provide shade for the plants & evaporation cools the panels. Probably not as cooling as being on water but you get the benefit of helping grow food...So you're probably actually making land that wasn't hospitable for farming farmable, which was one of the complaints of this video.

I wonder if at some point since this is on water if we’d ever combine it with wave power too. There are still loads of issues trying to harness the power of the waves in the ocean but it’s a thought

In the early 1980s they built round shallow ponds in Pagosa springs Calf. and did just this. Worked well , even with solar that cost 10 times as much. Then a storm came thru with 80 mph winds and picked up all the floating solar and scattered it all over the desert. This was, in part, a tax scam and was never rebuilt.

Did they all ready tried to combine solar panels with tidal wave power generator with wind power generator all in one farm

Panels that individually track the sun are more expensive to produce, and also maintain (maintenance being harder on water). So I think panels that only collectively track the sun will probably prevail (these would also subsequently be in a square formation -since in a circle, half is always looking away). Other than that: Great idea. But here’s a way to further increase output & cost effectiveness: Place a reflective surface opposite each panel (they’ll be little overheating given the availability of water cooling).

I missed the point of half is always looking away

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I agree that individually tracking panels can be more expensive and challenging to maintain. A square formation with collective tracking sounds like a practical solution. Adding reflective surfaces opposite each panel could definitely boost output and cost effectiveness. By the way, have you heard about the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It's a versatile and powerful backup power solution for outdoor enthusiasts like us. It's built tough, rechargeable in no time, and comes with comprehensive protections. Check it out if you're interested!

Why not just use Wave Generators, waves in the oceans move 24/7 . Or the electric, pull it from the air.

You put solar panels where you need them for basic power supply when energy from the sun is available, not use huge resources to put them on the sea, lakes, fields. All the extra infrastructure. Do people have any idea? All that is wishful thinking for the public and lobbyists/investors looking for a big pay check. Just take the investment needed per square meter, this is only lucrative with governmental grants and financial injections. The Netherlands country side and lakes have been visually destroyed by huge solar fields disguised and sold as "for our grandchildren" . The owners of the lakes and lands as well as the developers are getting rich of it. Some of the fields on water are covered with bird droppings, and not even cleaned. Are there no birds at sea? What will happen with salt water on the panels that blows around, elevated or not, it will get onto them. We must strive for a better policy and technology for generating huge amounts of electricity and that is simply nuclear. Not the kind that has been used since the 1950's which were designed to run on fuels derivatives from the production of nuclear weapons fuel. I have also never seen a solution for end of life recycling of the solar panels, neither for f.e. the blades of wind energy installations. Once again we are pushing forwards the bill, nothing has really changed.
