Here is a demo of the earliest known version of Microsoft Windows that is accessible to the public. This build of Windows is the blueprint of what would eventually become Windows 1.01, and as expected, it's only in black and white.

Crazy how I can see how some features of newer Windows versions would relate back to this. The window colour scheme and layout isn't that much different from Windows 10. The fact it's a tiling window manager kind of reminds me of modern mobile phones with their "revolutionary" split screen view.

I have a problem with PCem. It asks always for a ROM and I can not configurate it to run DR5 because it wants a ROM. Could anybody please help me?

You could tile windows by dragging the icon to the side of the screen. You could have unlimited number of windows open (if you could read it)

heads up: dr5 isn't the earliest version of windows, it's the earliest _available_ microsoft window manager demonstration is the earliest known build of windows 1.0, and the only located disk containing it is demagnetized and non-functional

The BYTE build was/were a fake image(s) from 1983 (2 years before release 1.01) the fake images were made that people would be exited and would buy Windows when it was available.
