New to growing lettuce and I’m in Texas. It’s gotten hot super fast this year , already over 100 F. My lettuce is bolting. Thank you for showing examples. Appreciate it!

Super helpful. Thank you. I'm in SW Florida. As soon as I attempted to plant my first romaine outdoors it turned into a little tree. 🤦🏽♀️ Now I know.

My first attempt of growing lettuce was very successful, planted 6 iceberg and 5 grew to harvest. I left some leaves when I harvested and it continued to grow but blotted waiting for flowers now for next year's seed.

Black bags not the best for lettuce in socal sun, heat and dryness. Despite potentially reading full sun on seed packs, lettuce and basil are often better sheilded by larger plants in socal. Early sun is good, midday sun not so much. The plants with darker leaves especially. Ive seen many say 80 degrees tops but 90ish can work without bolting if you limit sun and retain enough moisture. Maybe higher but not when it can potentially get to around 115-120f. In that type of sun, its time to cover just about everything. A shade when temps hit 102 ish is a good idea for most plants in socal though probably too much for lettuce. So Cal, unlike many southern places doesn't get much in the way of weather and thus very little cloud cover. Let them go to seed, breed the most resistant plants and maybe over time, if genetic diversity allows, you'll have something more tolerant. Or move hydro inside and grow lettuce with ease.

They all bolted cause you can't grow them when temps are 97 f outdoors..
