My guess why Team Avatar was able to take the palace guards down so easily is because the guards, and the Dai Lee as well, are super out-of-practice when it comes to dealing with competent enemies with advanced bending skills. They're so used to dealing with civilians (if any threats at all) that they're lost dealing with actually skilled adversaries. On Zuko, he's ill because he did a good thing for the first time lol. I wonder if Iroh went through the same thing on his journey to becoming who he is currently in the show?

I wouldn't necessarily include the Dai Li in that assessment. They're probably the most competent unnamed grunts in the series next to Yu Yan. And get high praise from one of the strongest characters in the series too.

There are a couple of interesting bits that are easy to miss. Earth King thinks that Avatar is from Water Tribe. It's actually an educated guess, since water is supposed to be next avatar after Aang. It's perfectly reasonable to expect Aang not to be alive after 100 years. And Zuko isn't just a prince. He is the eldest child and heir to the throne. His rightful place he wants to go back to isn't just somewhere in the Fire Nation, he aims to become next Fire Lord.

In terms of straight action, this is the best in the show for me: - Aang showing is earthbending skills, when he initially sucked - Aang and Toph side swiping the rocks, and generally fighting side by side - Katara going from useless on the battlefield to taking multiple kings guard on her own - Toph. One could wonder why she didn’t do the whole thing on her own - And let’s not forget Sokka. He led the negotiations and gave a pretty good speech that convinced the Earth King

I was younger when I watched this and those 2 plot twist at the end with melted my brain lol. I completely forgot about those 2 guys I haven't seen them in like 5 or 6 episodes, plus the show came on once a week so you forget things like that. Then like them, I didn't think about him saying 3 Kyoshi Warriors, only was thinking about Suki. I was like oh cool, she and a couple of the others went to Ba Sing Se to help out and had the others help the travels lol. By the time I was like, this don't make sense, I was hearing Asula voice and losing my mind lol
