The time has come again to plant in our garden. This week we built a super easy and time efficient raised garden bed that could take you only 5 minutes to build! We filled the bed with sunflowers, and then transplanted some of our vegetable starts into our mound garden beds. We also sowed a variety of beans in our hoop house. The garden is really starting to fill up, and we are so close to our final planting day!

Hi, we are Matt and Emily, and welcome to A Glimpse of Alaska! In September 2022, we made the 5,000 mile drive from our home in Florida to our new home: Alaska. We created this channel to document and share our adventures in this awe-inspiring state. We will be homesteading, truck camping, hunting, fishing, foraging, and doing everything else Alaska has to offer. We hope you follow along and enjoy!

That raised bed for the sunflowers is cool. I hope they grow. I had some planted till the squirrels found them...ugh! I think Aurora is liking her new dog run 😊

Thank you! Aurora indeed has been enjoying being outdoors more. Odd enough, we haven’t seen a squirrel here since probably June of last year. Weird with all the forest around us!

Good start I suggest you raise the top of your rain gauge above top of post as the rain will deflect of the post and falsely fill the gauge

I love that you kids go with what YOU want and are willing to go outside of the normal “Alaskan life” … I hope to be around (kinda older) to watch you guys build a beautiful homestead… Sending you lots of positive vibes and energy!! Those sunflowers are gonna soak up lots of water. 😂 Hopefully the next time you place some cardboard under your beds to stop the weeds…

It's best to plant corn in a block, close together so when the wind blows then they don't bend also it helps with fertility of the corn. Just a heads up

Morning, Everything looks wonderful, you’ve done a great job with your garden. The good news about larger weeds is they are much easier to pull up :) so nice to see Aurora. Thanks for another great video. Happy Saturday 😊

I agree with you about the celery. 😂 I can handle it in stews and soups, but if it's not in it that's fine too. 😊

That raised bed is awesome. I have nice beds and they didn’t go together as fast as yours. Love it. Your garden is looking. Good job making your own soil. It really does help. I also add peat moss to the soil to hold the water in. Just a thought. Good luck. Have a great week. See you next weekend✌️🇺🇸❤️❤️

Celery is great dehydrated that way it also doesn’t take up a lot of room but adds nutrients to soups and stews and then you have it on hand when you want it. Or you can blanch and freeze it. Good luck with the corn and hopefully you will get some harvest from it. Try to plant it together in blocks so it won’t blow over.

Looking good! Can't wait to see how the garden grows over the summer. I don't like the crunch of celery or onions, so I dehydrate them and grind into powder or just juice them for soups etc...

Grow more because you can make soup base with it in canning or if you have a freeze dryer and make a celery salt with it. Just a suggestion.
