That looks like my van and trailer, packed to the rafters for a twice weekly farmers market in the Ozarks. We have one acre devoted to cultivated mushrooms, free range eggs, vegetables, and garden plants. I'm too old for a $3600 week, but we are doing alright with two $500 days at the market and regular restaurant supply. People call us and come to the homestead for many of our products. We used our pandemic stimulus to buy another van and delivered to neighborhoods during the high egg price/shortage days. We still get $3.00 to $6.00 for a dozen eggs. Duck and quail eggs are very popular. I dehydrate mushrooms during the winter, and we educate customers on the uses of dehydrated mushrooms. I am exploring the permits necessary to sell canned goods and prepared foods--like pesto. Basil and other herbs are growing so well we dehydrate them, too.

I’m glad you can get the prices you ask for. The typical “farmer’s market” feels more like a gourmet outdoor market these days with a scant selection of “full priced” produce mixed with “artisan” goods. It reinforces that gardening is valuable in many respects. The trade aspect you only spend a few seconds on is actually a very valuable part of your economy as you get a higher quality of product in exchange for your production at a better value than paying cash, again for several reasons I hope you’ll consider sharing at some point-part of the neo-economic model we need to reincorporate into our personal lives.
@chefsharvestfarm5 ай бұрын
Thanks Thomas! Even my chiropractor lets me pay with veggies 🤣 Ive built this type of neo economy into my life on purpose. I exchange labor for labor with other farmers. Exchange the use of equipment for my personal labor. It’s no different than sales… all you gotta do is ask. Most people are willing to exchange goods or services for goods or services. I had several trees fall down on my property a couple years ago, and I was able to have a tree company come clean it up in exchange for 2 days worth of labor on another farm. I would say it has more to do with my personality than anything. I’ve always been like this…. Always Wheeling and dealing.

This was amazing to watch. Just the thought of seeing you do it all alone is freaking amazing it gives us motivation to know that we too can do it.

Thanks Joe! I will probably make that one within the next couple of months as the season slows down. Right now it’s just easier to have my worker Max do all the washing for me. But I will make that video in the near future! Thanks for following along 🙏
