Im just gonna say the hardest liszt pieces and some of the harderst pieces of all time are his very unknown sets of etudes. His douzes grandes etudes set is insane! The hardest etudes of liszt time and arguable the hardest pieces of all time are his etudes d'exucution trancendante d'apres paganini. His 4rth and 6th pieces in the 1938 piece are the hardest pieces ive ever seen. Also, liszt reminincences are crazy.
@SeverraRogue6 жыл бұрын
Not only they are insane, but they are also not really interesting musically. On the other hand, the transcendental studies are "easier" while still extremely hard, but what a difference from a musical point of view. By trimming all the purely technical, brilliant stuff, made to impress people, he created pure jewels.
@Santosificationable5 жыл бұрын
You are very right! I would say that the very hardest of his pieces would be either the Spanish Conert Solo (S. 253) or maybe I Puritani paraphrase. I haven't tried them, though they just sound the toughest. I'm not quite sure how they'd conpare to his Beethoven Symphony 9 transcription - this one is easier, but is 3x longer! His hardest music under 10 minutes, I suspect, easily goes to the Paganini 4b, of the 1838 set. The 6th of that set and Auber Tarantella are also very nasty. I think these might be even harder than the El Contrabandista.

One of the hardest of Liszt (probably the hardest) is Galop In A Minor, you know a piece is hard when most of the recordings are Midis, also most of performance of this piece are in slow tempo, which means that get the piece without mistakes is so difficult, one of the best performances is the Cziffra one, the way he plays is incredible also is probably the fastest recording of that piece. I've listen to many Liszt works and most of them are playable for most of great pianist, and also with awesome interpretations but with this piece I've never watch a performance video (only audio recordings and midis).

I'm not surprised in the slightest how nobody mentioned the second version of Fantaisie sur des motifs favoris de l'opéra 'La sonnambula'. It's an obscure piece from the master's repertoire back in the day and it is virtually unplayable. It's the bane of my existence, probably the hardest thing I've ever learnt. (even more difficult than the Norma and Don Juan fantasies) Out of the Transcendental Etudes Feux Follets is easily the most challenging, I've seen grandmaster pianists like Nikolai Lugansky struggle with it, and it's 1838 Grandes Etudes counterpart even manages to scare off seasoned veterans. The easiest pieces written by him would be definitely his late output, En Reve, Wiegenlied, Unstern, In Festo Transfigurationis... You know the drill. One lovely little unknown masterpiece I can share and recommend for beginning/intermediate pianists is the Ave Maria subtitled Die Glocken Von Rom (S. 182) which was composed for a contemporary piano tutoring book by Liszt. It's really something that you can easily pick up and doesn't contain any serious technical challenges (apart from basic things like balance, dynamics, voice-leading...).

Great video:) I've just found your channel, and I already love it. ..I know this isn't the best place for me to complain, but since you mentioned how difficult it is to play Liszt's Liebestraume No. 3, I can't keep my mouth shut. I practised a hell of a lot to learn that piece, and when I finally succeeded I was over the moon. I even got my courage up and performed it. Yeah. But then I also played the main theme of the movie Interstellar (weird combination, I know; but I had to play two pieces and I didn't really know anything else at the time). Guess which one they liked better..? Everyone was amazed by my simple as heck interstellar song-even those who haven't seen the film yet-and almost everyone forgot about my other piece. (And I don't mean to brag, but I performed it fairly well.) And similar things always happen-I play Chopin: well, who cares-then I play the theme song of Gravity Falls, for the first time, right from the sheet, because it's THAT easy, and it blows everyone's mind. I could go on. It just really drives me up the wall when they cherish something real easy much more than my pieces that are hard to learn. I know it shouldn't bother me, I mean how would they know the difficulty level of the song I'm playing-but it doeees. Now I almost never play to anyone, because they always prefer the easier songs, and I get angry when they start clapping and saying how nicely I can play...I do realize I'm stupid :D My biggest hobby is playing the piano, and I always think that I should practise more and do something with it-but I just can't imagine on what level should I be for people to understand I'm doing something (more) serious. I know, first world problems right here :D (P.s.: sorry for any mistakes, I'm not a native english speaker..and also sorry for rambling:D)

I found his transcriptions of Schubert's Schwanengesang to be relatively easy (considering it's Liszt lmfao). I personally started with the 4th song Ständchen and I think it might be approachable for a mid-intermediate student. It's a gorgeous song (Hamelin, Buniatishvili, and Lisitsa did some wonderful recordings and you can find it on KZbin) and there is a simplified version here along with the full score and a cadenza. ( www.klavier-noten.com/schubert/Schubert-Liszt%20St%E4ndchen-mit-integrierter-Ossia-Fassung.pdf ) If you were to play it as written it's difficult if you don't have big hands like me (I can barely reach an octave) but you could easily modify it to your taste. It also requires you to bring out the melody over the rest of the song so a bonus if you need help on that. The other songs from that collection should be approachable as well but not all of them are that interesting in my opinion.

There is actually a fair amount of easy pieces by Liszt that don't require you to be a hugely trained pianist ... Most of the pieces that are well known are generally hard to play ... but he wrote 700+ pieces (some of which contain several seperate compositions as well, so it is more like 800+) and most pianists don't even go farther than learning a few of the showpieces. Seems like there is this preconception that Liszt wrote everything to be extremely difficult, which is farther from the truth if you know more about him and his life. Let's start with "Nuages Gris". Aside from the slightly awkward timing, this is actually very easy! Waltz in A major (S.208a), the consolations are also not very hard and there is more to mention. But I really don't feel like writing it all down and giving this knowledge away to people who would rather just copy the general statements about it all being unplayable etc. as this simply isn't true and just shows how much you don't know (or care) about Liszt which is quite insulting to his memory. And no, I'm not a conservatory trained pianist or simply a Liszt fanboy ... I have learnt to appreciate Liszt through researching his music and life more throroughly and he is now on my top spot along with Chopin when it comes to melodic content. He really wrote some of the most beautiful captivating pieces. Sadly this apparantly falls to deaf ears with most people. Try to do more research rather than copy statements!

Liszt has an entire suite named Weihnachtsbaum (a set of 12 charming pieces) none of which are overly virtuosic and suitable for intermediate pianists. A lot of Liszt's 700+ works, are early advanced/late intermediate. Only a small portion of them, which is also a great deal compared to Chopin's works which are only around 200, are very difficult or overly virtuosic.

I think it's pretty manageable (hard-ish difficulty) until the cadenzas. The rest isn't too fast and I think it's fits into the hands really nicely. It's pretty friendly considering the composer here is LISZT lol Also, just do what my old music teacher said. If you can't play a passage at speed, slow it down and say it was 'rubato'. It really works. It stops you from sounding messy during fast passages. You have to make your 'rubato' fit in musically, but it's a pretty legit tip.

Nice video. But what about Sancta Dorothea, and the Romanza (I consider there are easy piano pieces)
@Kalen14576 жыл бұрын
I disagree with her stating at 3:42 that there are no "easy" Hungarian pieces. She should know that Hungarian Rhapsodies no.5, and 16-18 are quite accessible to many an intermediate student. She also forgot to mention in the Harmonies Poetiques et religieuses, the "Saint Dorothy" piece, it only lasts about a minute, and is only a page long. It is VERY easy, even though I consider myself a fairly advanced pianist, I had no problem sight reading it perfectly a tempo without any problems.

The one thing I dont like about these pieces is that you keep saying you have to be at a certain level to even attempt the pieces. Really, I'm a piano player who has finished an fmas diploma and the first pieces i ever played were chopin and liszt. My teacher encouraged me to attempt playing pieces by rach chopin and liszt early on to encourage me to strive to be able to play these pieces aventually and expose me to some of the best music ever written.

I completely agree. Getting some exposure to the difficult repertoire will better prepare you later on when you fully commit. It can also get you excited and determined to play because you are playing your favorite pieces.

Do you reckon you could discuss the life and music of Alexander Scriabin at some point?

the good think in classic is you can use a bit of the music instead of just talking over it :X

I find his nocturne "En Reve" (2 pages long) easier than his consolations, and his Romance in E minor isn't difficult either (feels like a Mendelssohn song without words to me). Both are pretty 👀

Could you do the easiest to most difficult Mozart pieces please

There are some Lied transcriptions after Schubert. Ständchen is doable

Very interesting to see which are the "easiest" pieces by Liszt, though none of them are easy to learn. I'd like to see you take a look at Rachmaninoff pieces, because they are likely to rival Liszt in so many ways as there's no "easy" pieces by him either.

Hey Allysia, I'm 13 and one month into piano playing (self taught). I practice for 8 hours a day and I am learning to play Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude" and Liszt's "Lebustraum" #3. Wanted to know if this is normal???? (Completely serious) Is it better to be self-taught or schooled through lessons? Thanks Allysia!!! ;)

what about the 'Auf dem wasser zu singen'? It's easy af. (Schubert-chan composed it, but liszt-sensei transcribed it into piano)
