Thank you for all this great information! Inspiring for one who has not set up a composting system but want to. Small area and not sure where to put it....

Cold composting just like you but in New Jersey. Summer is hot and humid. Winter cold and damp. I’m hit or miss with my building of composting in garbage cans 25 + I’m amazed at how quickly it decomposes in just 3 months. Enjoyed seeing your clear blue skies,, sunny day with hills in the background. Tks.

Ive recently got some chooks. My 0.7sqm bin has been at 65°C for a week and a half. I've never seen anything like it in the 10 years Ive had the bin, its supposed to be a cold conpost bin 😂. I LOVE my chickens ❤❤❤

This was very good. Have you ever just made a pile of compost without the pallet structure? What are the benefits of using the wooden enclosure?

@GreenGranny I composted with just piles on the ground in Southern California for 15 years, and it worked really well. I started using bins when I moved to Utah because I used to have dogs that would get into it. It was easier to train them to stay out of a bin rather than just piles on the ground. The other advantage is that you can build taller piles if you use a structure to contain it. That also helps the decomposition process to speed up.

I don’t have enough greens after a certain time other than food waste so it seems a slow go in the late fall.
