I like to use the dust made by the sander when making the patch flush to fill in the gaps...better color match. My grandfather was an old school carpenter, back in the days before power tools and one's wage was eight to ten dollars a day, made cat shaped patches called Dutchmen. I'm a retired carpenter, still keep my hand in, but compared to my grandfather I'm just a hack. Great video Jeff thumbs up.

obvious you're a good teacher by the way you explained your process.

What I have done to fix a knot hole like that is to find a knot in another board and cut it to fit the hole and epoxy it in. That works pretty well but what you did here works well too. Great video

You don't need to find another knot. Just find a dead tree branch of similar diameter.

@@stephenbeck5993great idea. I guess whichever is handy. I usually have scrap pieces to look through. But if you do have tree branches around the right size that would be easier

@@user-bt7ev9yq2t Either would work. Thanks.

Hey Jeff, very pleased I just found your channel. Was a big fan of your Stone House Revival show on HGTV. Any chance there is another season in the works? Thanks

I prefer diamond patches, but Most of my work was in historical restorations. You might want to explore microwaving the patch after fitting to Srink it into the space. Also round patches are easy to make and install with hole saws and a metal lathe. I have made heart shaped patches on special pieces, wedding gifts and the like. I have not done it myself but I have been told about undersizing the patch and embedding it with colored epoxy. Thank you for sharing your skill and enthusiasm.

Looks like sheeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Round knothole fill-in would have been better.

Poor camera work, panning in would have helped…

Thanks for the input, we are working on a small budget and just trying to figure out how to make this all work.

Can't see anything cause your camera is on the far side of the room.

Yep lots of glue, better on the apron then the shirt.
