Don't want to spend tons of money at the dealership for a chip in your key after replacing the faulty ignition switch? Try This! For 90's GM and Pontiac.

Show us the video when the key is inside of the car are you using one original key and then a blank key are you using the original key and tire rapid under the dashboard once you plug it in and did you change the ignition switch on the steering column to read another key that don't have a chip...

I have a 2004 buick century. I replaced the key cylinder. With the blank key it won't start. Watching another youtube video, he said to turn on key for 10 minutes, turn off key for 10 seconds. Do this 3 times for 30 minutes. I did this and now my car starts. It works. I used a timer for each 10 minutes. I was looking for the cable to put a resistor on. The one from my buick is brown. It looks just like the orange cable in the video. I ordered a kit of resistors from Amazon. My key has a resistance of 6000 ohms. I am going to use the old wires and connector from the replaced key cylinder. Volt meter, solder, heat shrink and correct resistance and the security light should go off.

Best bet is a standlone harness if doing an LS swap. Gonna make everything else just easier anyway.

I cut the orange wire and touched the ends to the resistor in my chip .and after that it never gave me a issue again . And I just leave the wires separated. Yes my light stays on but it's not flashing anymore . I did it 2 days ago . Spent zero

What did you exactly do ? Once you touched the wires did you leave the key down there? Do you have to do it every time ?
@worldsgonemad4600 Жыл бұрын
The actual easiest way to to this is cut the wire between the ecm and relay, and use a ground source. The stupid thing uses a transistor in the ecm to supply the relay with ground if the security module accepts the chip. Yeah its considered African engineering(old name no longer politically correct) but in my opinion so is the vats system.

Does this work on 1995 monte carlo with theft deterrent relay? I believe I would cut it right after the neutral position switch and before the theft deterrent relay? Thanks for your comments to help others. For some odd reason my starter blew apart. The key is stuck in the on position. It starts and dies right away. Not getting fuel because of the passlock system. Smh thank you for any info. Appreciate people like you.

So question if i do the second method and tape the old cylinder with the key on the “on” position.. for the NEW key Cylinder could i use a regular key cylinder from like a 87 camaro without the orange orange wire ?!
@tjdoozer9387 Жыл бұрын
Just in case you didn't find an answer to this, or if anyone else has the same question: Your 87 Camaro lock cylinder "may" work. I tried the same thing with another late 80's GM lock and it could start the car. The only thing that didn't work was the "accessory" position. I think these VATS cylinders are a little longer. The deeper hole doesn't allow a non-VATS cylinder to compress so you can turn it backward. So, if you don't care about the "ACC" position, you should be good to go.

@@TitaniummanGarage I have 1995 Grand Am, I have the keys that came with it but have no black pellet resister on them. One key has a black rubber cover with GM in it, the other key has no GM cover on key. Both keys have no visible black pellet on the key. The key with no GM cover has 1/8” hole in the key. Does 1996 key supposed to have black pellet resister on the key? The keys start the car but still have anti-theft problems in not starting the car at times. Sometimes I have to let the car sit for days for it to work again. I do not know if this was bypassed by the previous owner or even replaced the original cylinder. My cylinder doesn’t have the black prongs on each side of where the key goes into. In other words, doesn’t look like your cylinder. I’m just looking for the best way to solve the issue.

It should go off as long as key is turned to run position. The key you used to bypass. Try disconnecting battery to reset it.

What is the key pellet?
@scottwinn43024 ай бұрын
It is the little black resistor in the key.

Why not just solder the key pellet between the wires? It’s the contacts in the key tumbler that get worn out.

@@alishacheeney7831 the pellet is the plastic insert that is the resistor that comes in contact with the key tumbler and sends the voltage back to the ECM to disable the anti theft system.

That's not the quick or easiest way, it actually involves another step, buying another key cylinder. Plus it took your forever to get to the useless tip.
@TitaniummanGarage3 жыл бұрын
What I ment by easy is most guys were soldering resistors in to bypass it. You needed to find the correct ohms for the chip with a meter and solder the correct resistors in place. My way is much less complicated than that. Plug and play! Or you can just go to a dealer pay the outrageous price for a chip.
@glidekip Жыл бұрын
Simple? If you have the original key.. Your not bypassing the system you are appeasing it most people who are replacing their lock cylinder lost their original key so they can't tape it up underneath the dash.
