This is our go to New Year's meal. We love it so much we got two Raclettes (we are a large family). We use a variety of cheeses... sharp cheddar with thinly sliced apples is a fun combination ! We also do chocolate fondue for dessert.

We discovered raclette a few years ago and it is a family favourite. We found asparagus, zucchini, peppers and pineapple also work well. We do steak, bacon and sausage instead of deli meats. The sausage is precooked and sliced ahead of time. We have two sets so one is used solely for cooking the meat. If you have more than four people I would recommend two sets.

This was lovely, thank you. We were introduced to raclette years ago in France, on a cycling trip, we were hosted one night by a couple there and this was our dinner, we have since moved to the Netherlands and bought one of our own we love it.

We have had Raclette in Switzerland and Germany, and make it often at home. In Europe it was served with cornichons, cocktail onions, over chunks of French bread and small yellow potatoes.

As a Swiss I grew up in South Africa where this wasn’t a thing but now the last 16 years I live in the Netherlands with my husband and the Dutch call this “gourmet”many Dutch do this as a family celebration particularly for Sinterklaas Easter etc. We are able to buy mini burgers mini sausage mini everything to place on this. I tend to slice my own to make minis where I can buy raclette cheese and potato is always the star :)

Just to clarify that yes although Raclette is a French word it is a Swiss-French word as in, Swiss not French. Thank you for the reminder I absolutely love Raclette. Think I'll pull my 'pot' out for a Christmas Eve dinner!

Beautiful video 🥰 my 14 yr old son absolutely loves raclette so the past few years we have done them for Christmas family dinner. He likes putting stuff together so I make some Parker house rolls so he can make mini sandwiches. We also cut some steak, venison and turkey or chicken into strips. I can get so obsessive making sure nobody cross contaminates with the raw meat lol

Oh yes, to all of that. I love cheese and when you spoke the words oil and fat, it was like music to my ears! I don’t have a raclette set at home but I do have a German Fondue set dating from the 1980s. I make good use of that. Love your videos x

Great video! Ive been making Fondü on Christmas Eve for decades. Last year I finally added 2 raclette grills from Swissmar, the “Matterhorn” and the smaller “Geneva”. (Swissmar is a Canadian brand). For my first Raclette Party on Easter I made it easy on myself. I bought precut cheddar, tiny beef sausages from Costco, French sandwich bread, boiled small potatoes, and made a garlic sauce, added some fresh veggies, cherry tomatoes, and violà! There’s no rule that says you have to use raclette cheese. I got a German raclette cookbook. There are recipes for salmon, tacos, Mac and cheese, hamburgers, really, anything you can cook on a grill you can cook on a raclette grill. Don’t forget the wine or champagne! It’s a fun way to entertain!

Nice video. However the brushing mushroom thing is a myth. Try it for your self . Get a bunch of clean mushrooms . Make 3-4 groups and weigh them. Then wash one group , soak a second for 10 minuets and soak the rest of your groups in 10 minute intervals. Then weigh them again . Washing does nothing except clean them. Alton brown did this demo several years ago.

I’ve never heard of Raclette, thank you for sharing. One note, it’s a complete myth that mushrooms soak up water, they don’t and are grown in manure, so it’s totally fine and encouraged to WASH YOUR MUSHROOMS!!

Its usually used for "hot stone" grilling beacon and small sausage. We stopped doing that because the whole house reeks for days... We fry it in the pan before serving. We also put all jackets etc in rooms and close ALL doors because the smell...

My Venetian family would melt brick cheese, a Wisconsin cheese developed by Italian Swiss immigrants I believe, and serve it with polenta. Not too far removed from this I think 😗!
