I love seeing fellow mechanics do coil springs "my way". Taking the entire strut and spindle out is so much easier. Besides, if you take only the strut, you're only 1 nut away from complete disassembly anyways. My trick for reinstalling the struts is resting the lower ball joint on a shop stool. That way I can reinstall it by myself.

Not only does it not work properly (basically just holds you in place for an extra 3 seconds when you’re trying to get going) I bought a manual transmission to have full control over the transmission and I’m fully capable of driving in hills without any hill hold. If you could figure out the coding and post a video about how to disable hill hold, this would clear my only real complaint with the car 🙏

Just so you know, if or when you do those camber plates plus the ball joints you’re gonna wind up with like -3.8 ish camber.. quite the amount for a DD, which after about -3 your endlink attachment eyelet thing will hit the frame on bumps.. Whiteline makes some tops too with caster and camber but not as much camber as the 034s. Also, from what all my friends say the 034s tops are very noisy so keep that in mind! Appreciate the honest review on those springs!

Good to see this kind of review - parts that aren't *fully* thought-out and engineered and require full disassembly for minor adjustment... aren't parts that should be marketed. I've been considering some non-adjustable lowering springs for my Mk 7, but there are also places I drive my car that stock ride height just clears. 🤔 Definitely don't want a bag system, but even coil over with air cups requires a compressor. Might just have to sacrifice some plastic to the curb gods.

I guess one other thing to note is the myth of "one time use" Fasteners If its Torque to yield, it is recommended to replace, anything below yield is reusable. All this means is that if the bolt stretches "plasticly" it has gone past it point of return, literally. Yield point of a material is where it stops deforming in a spring like way, and starts to become permanently deformed, below yield is fair game. If there is no torque spec with degrees in the callout, then 99.9% of the time its good to go. *Sans bolts made of Stainless, titanium or aluminum* Just a PSA
@aygwm2 жыл бұрын
All fasteners stretch as part of tightening up… but torque to yield bolts are an engineering trick to get consistent torque settings on fasteners and keep them from loosening up on their own

For the pre and post measuring of body height, if you use the floor for measuring, then you can use the centre of the wheel to make sure you are as close as possible to the center of the wheel, no tape or marks necessary. 1: Car flat and level 2: Place tape measure hook at centre of contact point of wheel and floor 3: line up edge of tape with centre of wheel 4: Record measurement 5: Lower car 6: Rinse and repeat

Great video Charles! I’m sorry the springs fell short of your expectations. The adjustment method is very,very lacking among other things. Too bad the ST springs aren’t linear rate as well. To me, I was interested because there seems to be a market need for adjustable lowering springs. The other 2 options are really just set-drop lowering springs or coil overs if you want any adjustment. And often, the coil overs are too low, IMO, for daily driving. I’ve been running the Bilstein B12 Sportline on the Mk5 for years and would love to able to just raise the ride height about 12-15mm.

The springs on my mk7 were shot after 3 years on the roads here.. and a friend replaced the shocks on her car 4 times in her gti over the years. Anyways point being just springs.. not bad. But DCC shocks and springs and extras for a regular tuner cost alot more. Like 800 per DCC shock alone. When you can get a whole set up of coilovers for 1500-2500.. maybe that way is the way to go, and keep the factory system, but theres some real cost disadvantages as well. To each their own..

do adjustable coilovers exist that also have adaptive dampers? this way DCC cars can retain this feature. I own a 2021 GLI Autobahn. It's interesting. So many people say that adding lowering springs on a car with DCC just defeats the purpose. If you've paid extra for a car to have a greatly engineered suspension, why are you adding springs and potentially "ruining" the car's great suspension? Not trying to start an argument, just playing devil's advocate. We can all agree that these springs were not designed to be used with these shocks, so does this setup shorten the life of them? That would be an expensive bill to replace 4 DCC shocks after a year. Great video Charles!

APR, 034, and EMD springs are all designed around the factory DCC shocks. With any of these you still feel the difference between suspension modes which is the main point of DCC, these springs only further increase the handling. As for life shortening, there's nothing particularly wide spread that reports they do. I've had 034 springs on my DCC car for 3 years now without issue.
