Hello, a general rule of thumb is to prime bare wood to ensure that the paint sticks. However, every situation is unique. I’d take a drawer or door to your local paint store so they can evaluate your surface in person. They might have a product that is a paint and primer in one that would work well with the type of wood that you have. Very best wishes to you!
