This was one of your best videos so far Nick! The fact presentation was spot on, I loved the discussion about venom types mixed with the natural history information, it was a very engaging video to watch. Also, excellent work with the b-roll footage! That really tied the video together nicely. Looking forward to many more great videos! Personally I would love to see more videos documenting individual species like this, you are a natural presenter and always have cool facts that I never knew, which makes these so exciting. It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a mammal, maybe make a video about them? Cheers mate, -Harrison and Evan

Well I enjoyed that. I have 4 resident brown snakes here of different lengths and colours. They are here at the Sanctuary mainly because I have a few bird aviaries which therefor attract mice. The cocky aviary always provides quite a bit of scary entertainment, as the male cocky will actually go down on the ground and attack the brown as it slides by, by nipping it on the tail, which then sends the snake into a frenzy to escape, looking for any mouse holes to disappear down. I have always been tempted to go in there with a camera to film this, but in the end I don't in case I distract both snake and cocky. I have galahs in the next aviary , so when the snake slithers into there, the galahs go into a screaming frenzy and hang upside down madly flapping their wings. It is only once the snake slides down a hole that silence replaces the screaming. I always have to advise visitors and students not to go and trap the snakes as they are doing their job by eating mice.> Meanwhile my neighbours kill every snake they see.

I'd like to see more about general care, do's, don't etc , about how to live in harmony and respect for nature. Things like use of/collecting fire wood when camping. Or what to do when find a snake in your home or yard, or what to do if you find an injured animal, snake proofing poultry pens, or making your garden friendly for native animals etc...

Hey Nick, can you do a vid about that Western Australian brown that the aboriginals out there call, something like the 'go right around snake' or something like that. Apparently, they call it that because it has a psychotic disposition and will chase people, hence the 'walk around snake'. It's a name like that...

I nearly died from one of those =because of the Aussie myths that if you not dead in 15 min you'll be fine. Thats total bullshit I had a micro dose of venom since it had killed a rat in my chook pen just before it bit me, I felt it instantly that something had bitten me but it took 3 days before the venom made my heart briefly stop and paralysed my diaphragm. The paramedics where useless and simply didn't believe me and took me to the psych ward. there I was asked if I'm still seeing the snakes everywhere... I was just like WTF is happening here.. I said no and was send home in an uber. the next 3 weeks I was waking up during the night not breathing again. and bruising all over my body also my blood pressure was extremely high. so scary especially when you realise that the doctors are completely uneducated about snake envenomations. They said there is no rotting of my skin or anything just some punctures so they don't think it's from a snake.. HELLO not all snakes have cytotoxin idiots. I lost all my faith into our medical system..

Hey mate, you sound like you know a bit, however, saying that they rarely grow over 1.5 m makes you look like a fool. We rarely see them where we are under 1.5 and commonly see them over 2m. There is a lot of them ATM because of the mouse plague we had a few years ago. My neighbour has seen 23 this season so far.
@WickedWildlife Жыл бұрын
Sure, there’s plenty that exceed that, however for every 100 snakes I get called out to that on the phone are 1.5m maybe 5-10 are There’s certainly 2m browns caught every year, but they are the equivalent of people being 6ft 6

Is it true you can suck the venum out after bite?
@rosemarymurlis-hellings8138 Жыл бұрын
No. You put the compression bandage over the bite area and then bandage the limb. Use a marker or pen to indicate where underneath the bandage the bite is. The hospital will remove the marked area of the bandage and take a sample of the venom to determine the species of snake and treat accordingly. People have ulcers and scratches in their mouths, if you try to suck the venom you will end up poisoning yourself.
@michaelshort23884 жыл бұрын
I know that a baby brown snake is more dangerous than an adult because they are less able to regulate the amount of venom they inject in a bite. But wouldn't they be less toxic to humans if their venom as babies is designed to target reptiles and not mammals?

Alex D not great I’d say They don’t have any native predators that hunt in the same way as mongoose and their venom is similar in make up (although more potent) to many of the cobras and other snakes mongoose already hunt in other places That being said it’s also an agile and alert snake so most likely to flee rarther then confront an animal like a mongoose
