Bearhawk should be compensating you for these videos!!! As an intimidated future builder the step by step nature will have me watching these on repeat and coming back to watch again once I buy a kit. Thanks so much and please keep it up even though filming and editing adds quite a bit to the workload.

Great channel. I’m building a QB Bearhawk Patrol. I’m nearly done the wings. They are fairly easy and this is my first build. Everything else involves more variables though, so quite a bit more involved. I have installed controls and brake cylinders but not much else on the fuse. Seeing how something fits together in video before I have to do it is a real privilege for me. Thank you. Looking eagerly forward to more of your excellent videos. They are really well-done! Please keep’ em coming!

Colby, I used Oratex to recover the belly of a Tailwind I rebuilt. I highly recommend Oratex. The amount of time it saves is phenomenal. I have experience with Poly Fiber also on a Kitfox that I rebuilt and AcroSport II project wings I am currently building. I used Poly Fiber to match the covering on those 2 projects. But, If I was building a project from the start I would use Oratex because of the time saved and the ease of installation. When I told Oratex that I was recovering only the belly because the rest of the fuselage covering did not require recovering, they suggested their "flawed" material that had cosmetic flaws at about 30% less cost. I received the material and never could find any cosmetic flaws. I used the white heavy material. You might ask about the availability of similar material in the color you want. Wish I had enough time left to build a Bear Hawk. You have heard the saying, "I have more time than money"...........Not any more >

Looking Good ! I would recommend on the stringers where you have them flared to install a rubber boot or some sort of cap. Even though they are not seen, that would drive me crazy. Also, I would look into using stainless on the floorboard bolts. Water from boots and such, may help with removing and rust proofing down the road. Looking great though, and excited for the next video !

Very interesting, well done, looking forward to each episode. I was wondering if you retouch the finish with spray paint where you drill holes in tabs etc.? Also a drop or 2 of oil in pivot points like in rudder pedals might be a good idea on assembly.
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, George! The kit does come with touchup paint that I'll use before final assembly. I'm not sure if I'll do anything in the actual holes. That's something I'll need to look into more. Greasing or oiling many of the pivot points will be a standard maintenance item. Appreciate the tips!

Colby ... I have floor panels that overlap ... did you trim to fit edge to edge .. did you need to trim? Nice work
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bill. I did not trim the overlap. The overlap seemed intentional to me. Especially the last two panels in the cargo area. The back panel overlapped enough to share the same fasteners as the back row of the next forward panel. The time-lapse in the video may be a little misleading because the overlap is in a way that I think the intent is to install them from back to front. That's how I'll do it when I install them for the final install.

Great to see another video out of this process. Have you considered Oratex in place of fabric?There seem to be advantages of weight and toughness as well as ease of repair, but isn't as shiny as normal paint, although it can be painted too.
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the recommendation, Nelson. Oratex is certainly being considered. Have you had the opportunity to install it yourself? I'm anxious to hear more first hand experiences regarding the installation process.

@@ColbyOsborn Actually, I am an armchair aviator and not currently involved in any flying or building, only dreaming and obsessively researching at this point :-) I'm enough of a craftsman that I tend to thoroughly research the fine details of projects I would like to do someday and consider the pros and cons of various methods. But I have no actual experience with fabric or Oratex. I've decided the Bearhawk 5 is about the ultimate plane for me, so I've been interested in any ongoing projects I can find.

Hello Rob, I’ve been using “The Map” that’s part of the kit builders manual on Bearhawk.tips as guidance for that. If you purchased a kit from Bearhawk Aircraft you should get free access. Otherwise there’s a signup fee. I’ve jumped around a bit based on what parts I have at the time and what my space allows for. But I think the map is useful to see what needs to be done before doing a major step. Or finding something that you can jump to without skipping necessary steps. As far as the specific order I’ve actually completed things. The order I’ve released videos is more or less the order I’ve been completing things. If you go to my channels page and click on the “Videos” tab, they should be listed in the order I’ve completed them in. Hope you enjoy building!

Does the kit come with all the parts you’ve used so far? It seems that you had to source some of the parts. Is that the case?
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
I think the only thing I’ve used so far that I had to source on my own was the little spring in the flap lever. It’s a standard spring found in most local hardware stores. Pretty much everything specific to the Bearhawk comes with the kit. Then when you buy the kit Bearhawk Aircraft will ask their hardware provider to prepare a quote for your kits hardware package. The package contains most of the aviation specific hardware. Once you get the quote from the hardware provider you can add to it or take items off if you already have anything from another project. Things that have a lot of options like fabric, avionics, tires, etc. are up to the builder to decide on and order from themselves.

Any chance the floorboard screws may back out? Not sure if it’s worth putting a dab of something on them (locktite, EZ Turn lube)?
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
Good thought. I believe the tinnerman nuts are self locking when the screw is torqued properly. I'll look into this more before we do the final install. Thanks!
@TalonID
@TalonID 3 жыл бұрын
@@ColbyOsborn They are, being a small cantilever they apply a friction force to the threads (when tight). If you have any issues with them loosing in flight, you could swap them out for Southco 1/4-turns which use a receptacle that is similar to a Tinnerman. The Southco's are length dependent so you need different stud P/Ns for different gap thicknesses.

Did you grease the lap axle before assembly?
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
I did not. There are are 4 small holes along the axle that allow for oiling and I did do that after installing. Perhaps a little grease first would've been better, but wasn't something I thought of.

Is the flap lever any longer / beefier than the one supplied with the 4 place kit ? Everyone seems to have had issue with the size of the lever and being able to pull on flap. A longer flap lever is the answer however this one with bigger flaps than the model A 4 place would ideally need longer again
@ColbyOsborn
@ColbyOsborn 3 жыл бұрын
I think the flap lever on the Model 5 is about 1.5” longer than the flap lever on the B model 4 place. Bob also moved it up about 5”, I assume to make reaching it easier.
