This is how I learned video editing, and I think this is a much better way then watching hours of tutorials. By the time when you know something you will already have a portfolio and will discover what you're capable of in terms of content creation.

Great video and I mainly agree with the first tip, which is a hard pill to swallow for myself too. When I started out learning how to edit, I was stuck just watching and watching endless tutorials. Mostly tutorials on how to do certain effects and transitions, or those typical "*secret* editing tips that the best content creators use"-type of videos. I was just stockpiling loads of information first and end up being overwhelmed, rather than actually creating my own content first and then researching how to do certain things that would fit my video later/during the edit. I personally found that watching so many tutorials upfront just created more pressure and anxiety surrounding editing. Personally the only type of videos I would exclude from the above example are videos that explain the basic tools of the editor and some basic concepts on how to navigate said editor. Quite a lot of things (but not all) you find in those videos are often things you will learn and discover with more time spend in the editor. Editing is all experience in the end. Trust yourself and learn as you go. Don't try to immediately become a jack-of-all-trades. Learn the program on your own pace and create a bit of your own flavour/

this is definitely the way! it's like with psychology, looking inwards these days and expressing your TRUE self through some medium or art (like video editing) is much more important and will bring better results in a long run imo

Well said! I needed to see this video today. I am in the process of creating a channel but I am the epitome of analysis paralysis. I am constantly shooting and creating with nicer equipment than the average person getting into filmmaking or videography but I just never post. I need to throw out the perfectionism and just post.

V relatable and transferable. Best way to learn is by doing. At uni I learned Computer Science only by doing projects. It’s the same thing with any discipline. But great advice that’s required. The people who want to BE something watch tutorials without realising they should aspire to DO not BE 🙏

100%, because of the desire to BE something we completely shut off the creativity and why we decided to start this thing in the first place, because we liked to DO it that's very obvious but at the same time I think a lot of people get lost in there (I definitely did)

@KyrieQHD
@KyrieQHD Ай бұрын

Right now I am using a lot of time subtitling some of my video, which has taken a long time. Is it supposed to take a long time just to subtitle or might I be doing something wrong?

These days there are built in auto captions in the editing software! I used auto generated subtitles in Davinci.
@andreasisme
@andreasisme 23 күн бұрын
@@KyrieQHD yeah that makes sense, I tried using it in premiere, however it would not let me animate the text or anything really. Idk if there's any way to do it. I am using key framing to make the subtitles pop in, and at first glance it didn't seem possible with the captions.
@KyrieQHD
@KyrieQHD 23 күн бұрын
@@andreasisme yes, is not possible with the actual subtitles in Davinci as far as I know There are some ways to do that, you have to export them as a Project and then re-import it into the project in Davinci. But in Premiere I think they have a new feature "update captions to graphics" right now. You should check the tutorials on KZbin on that!
