The Easy Way to Line a Crochet Bag-any shape!

I made this video for those who struggle with lining their crochet bags. I have found that most of my customers at my vendor markets prefer my crochet bags to be lined. I decided to start lining all of my bags. This method works for almost any bag I have ever made, with the exception of a rounded top/mouth.
I recommend always trying to use a jersey knit or stretchy material because this will hide your mistakes best. It also doesn't usually fray like most materials, which means less sewing--WOOT!
I buy my fabric at Walmart for around $1-$2 a yard. They have pre-cut fabric that usually always contains a stretchy fabric. Just be sure it's not too thin, or it won't look as good.
You are also going to need a hot glue gun to glue the lining to your crochet bag. Hand sewing takes FOREVER, so trust me! Just try it one time and you will never go back to hand sewing a lining into your bags!

Hi Dana! I love this idea. If not using wooden handles and such, do you know how the hot clue would hold up to being washed? Or would you recommend just spot cleaning? Thank you, I can’t wait to try this on a bag I’ve been putting off finishing the lining because of sewing to the bag. Love the bag too

I personally would only spot clean or hand wash if desperate. But even if it came unglued, you can just glue it back on. It’s not going to come undone on the seams so you should be good to just apply more glue if needed. I definitely would not put in the dryer or you’ll have a sticky mess lol

Hi. I love your patterns and tutorials. I’m getting ready to line a crochet bag and want to try your method. But I wanted to add a zipper. Would it be possible to do this by hot gluing the zipper in between the crochet and lining somehow? Have you tried this before? I appreciate any tips or advice. Thank you so much!

I would do it differently if I was adding a zipper, personally. I would sew the zipper lip to the fabric when sewing the side seams, then only hot glue the fabric to the bag. Do you have tutorial, to line a bag, that has a bottom? For example, like a bucket bag? Either square or circular. Thanks in advanced.

I don’t but I would realistically line it in a similar fashion. The lining doesn’t have to be the exact shape of the bag 😉 at least that’s my lazy way of thinking😂

I got to thinking, I’ve actually lined a bucket bottom bag like this before. I essentially laid it flat lengthwise with the base sort of hanging down (it’s hard to explain). I essentially fold it so it’s completely flat with the base folded downward instead of inward. I did the same trick with the fabric and lined up the fold with the bottom. Then cut the shape. I still would hot glue the lining in. The lining should sort of spread out when you put it in the bag to cover the base. If you can’t picture it, let me know and I’ll try to explain it better.

Is hot glue better than the fabric glue or superglue? And what is going to happen after the wash? I usually sew the insert on the sewing machine like you did and then handstich it to the bag over the machine stitches.

Do what you’re comfortable with🙂 I’m not comfortable sewing mine in, so I hot glue them. I hand wash everything and I encourage my customers to spot clean or hand wash. Also, you can use a ball point needle, but I usually don’t. It hasn’t mattered thus far.

Noooo..why would you ruin your work with glue??? You can use a portable sewing hand held stitcher. 😢

Exactly how is it ruined? I tell people to hand wash and lay flat to dry. The only thing it hinders you from doing is drying it in the dryer, which I don't do with any of my handmade items. Have you ever used hot glue like this? If so, how was your project ruined? I'm all for understanding better ways, but so far in the years I've been doing this, I've had zero mishaps or ruined projects.

@@DaysCrochet Hmmmm.. did you sew by hand or machine? Or it could be maybe not the right thread. Im getting ready to sew a lining in by hand to my crocheted bag. The yarn was a Lions heartland brand it is a gift so we see how it handles when she uses it. I think though that I will keep the stitches close and to the edge of the seem so it will be less noticable.
