This was great ! Iam impressed ❤ Please tell me how long will it be before we can plant these new hydrangeas in the ground ? It's very important ! I'm in ZONE 5 . I have prepped an area for the blues ..My soil is Alkaline so Blue turns dark gorgeous mauve plum / plinks unless you have prepared your soil. I fell in love with them in large pots and the brilliance of mauves, pinks stole the show when they were in front of a drift of storm cloud perennial swaying in the breeze . The periwinkle blue star blooms on top were such an Accent to them as they grew in the eastern morning light ... Just a Serendipity morning * . I need more . How long in the shade pots - till rooted. Then what ? In the ground ? Tell me what I am missing . I am older with few tools . I want to see them and some from myimelight . If of me , then for the one who comes after .e in love ❤

The interesting thing about hydrangeas is that they have the ability to root all along the stem. So that angle cut at the bottom isn’t needed. Just an interesting tidbit I thought I’d pass along 😊. great video 👍 btw

Btw, what's the difference between angle and straight cuts?
@Garden-Oasis5 ай бұрын
@@luv14lyffrom my experience propagating, there isn’t much difference between them. The theory is that you increase the surface area of the bottom if you cut at an angle but I never do and it hasn’t hindered my success at all. It still roots with a straight cut just as well as with an angle cut. The theory does make sense in that you ARE increasing surface area but honestly, it makes no difference.

When inserting the cutting into dirt, doesn't the rooting hormone just rub off on the dirt while you're pushing the cutting down? I've always used a new chop stick or pencil to create a hole first, then insert cutting. Thanks for sharing! I never have cut the leaves in half!
@sandraking96504 ай бұрын
That's what I would do also exactly . The more foliage that is left will suck the energy ,thus why he is taking most off, so the energy will go into the stem as it starts to gain roots.

Mopheads do great in containers. They just need a slow release fertilizer to fulfill their nutrient requirements. This way, you can just drag the pot into your garage once it’s gone to sleep for the winter. Drag it back out in early spring. I do this for a lemon tree that’s not hardy in my area. Works great 👍 it’s going on its 6th year now

I gave them away once rooted. Dont worry about soil ph while rooting. Adjust PH after planting, it’s really the aluminum amount in soil that changes the color of the blooms.
