The graph at 0:46 was quite an impressive demonstration to me. I already knew that air transport is by far the most expensive, but wouldn't have thought it's such a huge step up. I'm also amazed by how relatively cheap rail transport is supposed to be... Investing in a more sophisicated railroad network might actually save a lot of money on the long run, as many trucks set out because of the points that cannot be reached by rail. Also, that would definitely dilute the extreme congestion trucks cause on motorways... But with the sheer competency of the railroad companies that operate locally in my proximity, I should be careful what to wish for because that expansion would sadly prove to be a disaster, I bet. I don't actually have that much to do with shipping affairs, really; i'm currently training to become a foreign-language correspondent and somehow require additional information to visualize what all the ''paper work'' is truly on about, as I find bureaucratic routine quite bland and monotonous without looking at the scale of things behind it. Your content has helped me comprehend, as I'm just now taking a very lateral step in terms of profession - I'm actually doing the entire training on the side and getting more and more absorbed and so far, I enjoy it. I'd like to let you know that I subscribed and am looking forward to more educational videos like that. Ha det bra!

Deeply admire in awe your way of visually presenting the "Economic of shipping" which for one reason I thought of having my own channel keeping clips shown to inspire and give information on ports, harbor and shipping wonders. Hoping you would allow me to share your video clip, an opportunity perhaps. just felt happy about it looking back after a year of retirement from service once handling/managing a Port in the Bicol Region, Philippines. Thank you so much.

Excellent video. I like the mix of key points from both economic and scientific perspectives. For example, for economics, capital requirement, efficiency at ports, manpower use For example for scientific, the low drag from water. for both, the cheap fuel.

Hi, could you be able to share the shipping cost graph's original source? Thank you in advance.

Hi, here is a link to a graph from the book "The Geography of Transport Systems" that shows a similar relationship using revenue in this case: transportgeography.org/contents/chapter5/transportation-modes-modal-competition-modal-shift/freight-transport-revenue-ton-mile/

How do you work out the cost per ton mile in bulk carriers.? Say a ship carries 10,000 tonnes of cargo. The speed is 10 knots. And burns 10 tonnes of fuel a day. What is the cost per ton mile?
@Holmos4 жыл бұрын
It is calculated by taking the total cost of the shipment and dividing it by the cargo weight and distance traveled

The real truth is we all need to throw that stuff off those ships like they did during the Boston tea party.
