That "Love Is Blindness" solo gets me every time. It always gives me chills. The emotion he puts into it is beyond belief. People can play that solo but they won't have the emotion Edge has when he plays it.

There are so many great guitarists in our time. But nothing will match The Edge in how his guitar solos impacted me. I grew up listening to his guitar solos as a way for my late Dad to get me to sleep. My Dad would play the guitar solo of I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and With or Without You before I go to sleep. Like a lullaby. At 28, I still listen to them as a means to keep me calm, to get me to sleep, and to relax while driving. The Edge's guitar solos catches your soul, it really does.

Love is blindness (Zoo TV) Until the end of the world (Zoo TV) Bullet the blue sky (Zoo TV) Mysterious ways (Elevation) Please (Pop Tour) These three solos are enough to see the reason why The Edge ALWAYS consistently is placed in the very top 10 or 20 of the greatest rock and roll guitarists of all times. He was ranked #14 by L.A. times most recently. It is not about the most technical guitarist, but the greatest guitarists are the one's who can really convey the emotions and spirit of the song through solos and riffs the most melodically. Just like the greatest vocalists of all times, are not even close to being technically the greatest, but their ability to put their emotions and ability to connect with the listener is what makes them great.

One of the things that first attracted me to U2 was the sound of the guitar playing. I don't give a damn how the Edge achieves that sound or whether others think he's a great guitarist or not. I just want him to keep on doing what he's doing because what he does is so damned appealing to my musical soul! I love his sound and never tire of it. And in "my opinion", one of the best "guitar artists" out there today is the relatively unknown Steuart Smith. You need to see and hear him perform away from the Eagles, like his recent tour with Rodney Crowell, to realize it. The Eagles suppress him because they don't want him to steal their thunder and damage their egos. His good buddy Rodney lets him fly.

U2 are greater than their individual parts. They know this and that is why they have stayed together so long. Edges guitar on Boy through War is unique and his simplistic approach and almost maniacal attention to tone is what has made him one of rock's great innovators. For the haters, there are thousands of guys who can shred and many bands could replace their guitarist without great notice. U2 could not replace Edge. I really don't think they could replace anyone and be the live act they are. These guys started at age 16 and have done what only a handful of bands have done.

he holds the pick much better than other guitar heroes... he has a real fucking good right hand... and remember you really play guitar with your right hand, not the left hand (unless it´s more striking for the people) he is very good at rythm patterns.. he perfectly mutes the strings that are not sounding, not only with his right hand, but with his left hand making the sound more percussive (unless that means that it looks like he was rudimentary) So any people that never played guitar, or never tryed to sound like U2, just learn and practice, and see how underrated is this man.

Not everything must be speed and shred to consider someone a great artist. His sound is somehow original, and has been a huge influence in many guitar players that came after, thats what makes him so "big". Besides, a lot of "shreders" lack of that cool surrounding vibrato, and at least he is sure to not fuck it up in the solos as some skilled guitar players sometimes do by playing super complex stuff. Even so, the edge is not even by far in my top 10 guitar players...but dont underrate him, he may has been a huge influence to some band you like

Exactly luk Ro Rock guitarists are not even the best guitarists in the world, the greatest guitarists don't shred, they play it and achieve unique sounds by understanding their instrument and being at one with it. Anyone who thinks Edge can't shred and thrash a guitar about because U2's music doesn't require it is living in cloud cuckoo land. Shredding and thrashing is probably the easiest and most basic form of guitar work.
