As well as being a serious actor in Callan, and, later, The Equaliser, he was also a serious singer!

Father Dear Father meets Callan was a brilliant idea! I'd have loved to have seen Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer meeting Callan. I'm sure that would have been hilarious as well!

Yes! But that might have also featured Michele Dotrice as Betty, and unsettled the natural course of things, meaning that she and Edward Woodward might not have gotten married.

Great to see Woodward sending up his own character Callan.

The Edward Woodward Hour was three one-off specials made by Thames Television. The specials were to showcase Edward's skills as an actor and performer. Callan made him a superstar here in the UK and Thames wanted to cash in on it. These specials, along with appearances on the BBC Morecambe and Wise Show helped. Only one special survives in the archives, the other two were wiped by Thames shortly after transmission.

I always adored Edward Woodward. I’m currently gorging on the Equaliser being shown on Forces TV. I loved Callan also, and tried not to miss an episode which took a lot of commitment in those days without video recorders, KZbin etc. Ive never seen this skit before, it’s hilarious and shows what a fine actor EW is - it takes dexterity and perfect timing to do comedy well. Thank you so much for posting.

This has to be one of my favourite sketches ever. It's wonderful to see Edward Woodward playing a comedy version of Callan with Patrick Glover (Patrick Cargill).

'Don't you worry, mate-I know all about jiu jitsu and karate!' 'Yes, but this happens to be a BRITISH set!' Great to see Edward being so funny.

@@trevorml1362 Edward usually did pretty serious roles so it's nice to see his humour here. It was a good gag!

@@sharona1981 I loved him as The Equalizer. Then, I discovered him as Callan and had even deeper respect for his acting abilities. I just had no idea he was so multi-talented, though. His singing voice was wonderful... and now I've discovered his humorous side as well. I truly miss him more and more as the years pass. I hope more examples of his talent and personality are posted. He was so gifted!

@@carolechapman731 Truly a great talent, and by all accounts, a genuinely lovely man. I too loved him as The Equalizer, but he was a man of many gifts. Very sadly missed.

@@johnking5174 Sad that so much got wiped in those days. Some real treasures lost forever.

@@davidgibbs7232 Both BBC and ITV felt they could not afford to keep these large archives. Remember back in 60s, 70s it was on expensive video tape and film, which cost a fortune to buy and a lot to maintain. Wiping and reusing was the norm. Back then TV was disposal. Three channels, with a typical broadcasting day in the early 1970s just ten hours of programming at most, keeping them was not required.

That was really good. Nice cross over.

Surprised there wasn't a crossover between FDF & Bless This House? Sid & Patrick hate each other on sight, Sid thinking Patrick a bit hoity toity, Patrick thinking Sid was uncouth, Jean Abbott getting on with Nanny, while one of the Glover girls hooks up with Mike Abbott!

Who's the nimrod who gave this a thumbs down? The skit's a bit dated in terms of sexist humour, but a brilliant send-up nonetheless.
