They do have their issues, like the text parser in Notes, but the Chzo Mythos series are probably my favourite adventure games ever, mostly for a bang-up job of making a gripping setting and satisfactory plot, and partially because it speaks to what can be achieved with a well focused one-man team. Not an artistic or programming savant, but someone well enough trained in all aspects to make the whole package come together really well. Something sufficiently within reach of someone like myself to make me think, "I could actually do something like that if I committed to it." It's surprisingly inspirational like that.

Since Yahtzee is nit-picking so much I can hopefully be forgiven for doing the same. There is no such thing as a late 18th century musket rifle that can be described as standard issue for the British army. The first one might call standard issue, the Baker rifle, was 1801 issue at the earliest and relatively rare even amongst the Light Infantry units. AFAIK the only rifle the British fielded in quantity in the late 18th century would be the Ferguson rifle (1776) but that stretches standard issue beyond breaking point. Presumably Yahtzee had a brain fart and used 18th century to talk about 1800s? An easily made mistake.

I remember back in 2008 when I played this game and I remember thinking: I bet Terry Pratchett is the designer's favorite author. I feel so smart for being able to call that one! :D :D :D :D :D

With the Sir thing, he could have been a war hero at a young age, knighted for his actions but possibily discharged later with PTSD. That would explain why the police instantly went to murder and suicide, maybe stating that his PTSD caused him to murder his wife and then kill himself.

nope. turns out that there is a title that allows someone to inherit the title "Sir". Baronetcy or something like that.

Heh. I always wondered why the school was St Trinians. I always presumed it was just an amusing reference to confuse people. I never thought he'd just subconsciously picked it up somewhere and didn't know where it was from.

Hello Yahtzee and Gabe. Which ending to Watchmen you think suited the story better, the comic book ending or the movie ending, and why?

What is Yahtzees thing with journalists that won't stop being journalists in ridicules scenarios? Simone is just like Angela in jam.

callum west That's what journalists in fiction do. They have no sense of self-preservation and will do ANYTHING to get their story.

I played these back in the day (meaning I stumbled across them back when they were quite new) and they genuinely got under my skin. So unsettling...... I hope I can find a way to port the series to my android devices.

Yes! I love the Chzo Mythos. I'm not just saying that as fan of Yahtzee's Work, I'm saying it as a serious fan of Lovecraftian fiction. I know Yahtzee's a busy man but I would seriously love it if someday he continued working on the Chzo Mythos or at least allowed a fanbase to expand the Universe on his behalf. There's some serious potential in it.

I remember playing the Chzo Mythos games in 2007, just before 6 Days came out. This first game I remembered being pretty bad, but the other ones were legitimately scary. I look forward for the Ego Review of those. The graphics are much better than I recall, and I have vivid memories of that kitchen and backyard. I got stuck at the part where you had to break through the wall in the kitchen and go down stairs or whatever. Fun times.
