Small correction, surprisingly, the Pink Sauce miraculously avoided being a botulism breeding material due to the recipe. Ann from How to Cook That went into more detail in her video about the subject, but basically: the recipe is barely acidic enough (I’m talking decimals) in the PH scale that botulism bacteria spores cannot hatch. It can still go bad, there’s other bacteria that can handle that acidic environment, but by a literal miracle the Pink Sauce avoided the worst food contaminant bacteria.

Generally, the only requirement that matters is amount of experience, measured in years. This pink sauce drama has been going on so long that she literally has enough years of experience that she can fully call herself a chef She is, in fact, a chef, no matter HOW you spin it. I think the main thing that clued me into the quality of the sauce was the way she pours it so liberally and indiscriminately onto everything she eats. If the sauce is rich and flavorful, why would you need to be so excessive? I don't even get the ingredients either. Honey, garlic cloves, and dragonfruit do not mix well on any planet that I know of. Like, I've always felt even if she did everything right, there is no universe in which this is genuinely appetizing to anyone but her, there's legit something wrong with her tastebuds. She doesn't even understand her own virality either. Pink sauce IS A MEME. It spread like wildfire PURELY because of just how alien a concept an edible sauce that is THAT barbie pink is. There's literally nothing about it that's normal. THAT is why it went viral, because it's strange to see someone unironically eat that nuclear waste... Not because the stuff actually tastes good. I'm not sure anyone got a real sample to try that wasn't rotten, but like... If I somehow showed up at her house, and tried a fresh batch, as it was meant to be eaten, I think it would still taste freaking weird... And if you want to actually SELL IT AS FOOD, you can't really do that unless it genuinely tastes good. Otherwise, the few sales you get off of novelty immediately drop off. It's why novel food products don't last at all.

I can kind of see where her “logic” is coming from. She expected royalty payments thinking it was basically free money. Part of her contract said that she was getting paid those royalties before expenses. She assumed that asking for an advance counted as an expense, not a cut of the pay check she was going to be paid. Since her payments were tiny compared to the money she already got (due to the 10k bonus), she assumed that they were adding expenses before the follow up payments, but in reality it was just that she already got paid the amount. It wasn’t a business expense, just a normal advance, which she assumed gave her a free money glitch.

Dave's probably lost money on this deal and she is delusional to think that anyone would want to touch her business with a 20-foot pole after this stunt! All the girl had to do was advertise like she did when she went viral and maybe some recipes of her own that go well with the sauce and then maybe it wouldn't have flopped so hard. When Kapoor managed to get his greasy mits on it he took a picture with his middle finger having been dipped in it, when Semple learned of this he responded by releasing more pinkest pink with glass mixed in that wouldn't effect the painting but may hurt if fingers are dipped in it. You can also get black 3.0 and 4.0 (which are probably darker than Kapoors paint) on Semple's website also for a reasonable amount

She is a very successful person who had already put in a lot of work and likely has funds to fall back on. She is and was expected to work to earn what she has. She seriously seems to think that all successful people just do one thing and then sit back as it just pays out forever. That she is just owed success because. Which is sad, not only for her but because it's something that can be seen in other people with the "Im a king/queen" mindset where they think they are just owed everything in life and will actively go out of their way to harm anyone who doesn't play into their delusion.

When I first heard of Dave's Gourmet buying the Pink Sauce, I thought, "Oh great, a soulless corporation trying to take advantage of a fleeting internet trend. Can't wait to see how they fuck it up," but as I followed the story, I began to like Dave's A LOT. They gave Pi a very generous amount of money, offered to pay off her debts to her early customers (read victims) and then they gave her even more money when she said that she was homeless, and when she tried to paint them as a greedy company they offered to get a lawyer for her to reread the contract and understand what they do and don't need to do. And then they gave the receipts! Oh god, trying to get Dave's to pay for an $800 dress for a birthday party that would cost thousands of dollars, and then trying to get them to pay for all of her time living at luxurious apartments, it was wild! It shows you just how ice Dave's is to one, pick up a small creator and pick up their product despite that creator's controversies, two, pay her in advance and do everything they could to help her prior unsatisfied customers, and the cherry on the top, they haven't even tossed her under the bus. They have more than enough to bury her in court for not upholding her end of the deal, and no one would be upset with it. And to think, Chef Pi only had to do ONE THING! Advertise. Go on her platform and advertise the new Pink Sauce, maybe make recipes with it, collaborator with other creators, or just walk around with it and offer it to strangers like she did in the early days. That was ALL she needed to do after Dave's decided to pay off her debts to her customers and what did she do? She tried to throw the most expensive party in the world and is now crying poor.
