There was a town in El Dorado Park where El Dorado Frontier is now. It was called Arlen Mesa and it began as a railroad camp. It was a stop on a railroad line from San Antonio to San Diego. The town really sprang up in the 1870s when gold was discovered in the nearby lake and mining began. The town lasted until the turn of the 20th century when the gold ran out and highways for automobiles began to replace railroads.
