@RETROTITANPLAYS4 жыл бұрын
The Elder Scrolls I, II, III and IV all took place within the same lifetime. Within Uriel's lifetime, in fact. The Emperor that dies in the beginning of the fourth game, is the same one we're tasked with rescuing in the first. Uriel was a force from the beginning of it all, from the first time anyone ever loaded up an Elder Scrolls Game. We existed within the Septim Dynasty, all the way until the end of the Oblivion Crisis. I see a lot of people complaining that Skyrim wasn't as good... but it isn't that it's worse, it's that it FEELS different. In that way, the developers did a perfect job. The first four games were more alike to one another, because they all took place within a few decades... but after that, it was CENTURIES before the events of Skyrim took place. We existed in a new age of heroes, with four different people who changed the course of Nirn's history within such a short span of time. The man who stopped Jagar Tharn, which led to Martin being able to be born, the man who caused the warp in the west, bringing many timelines together, the immortal re-incarnation of an ancient Chimer, who broke the control over the heart of Lorkhan and defeated the Gods of Morrowind... and finally, the man who not only helped his friend become the Avatar of a god... but later became a Daedric God himself. But in Skyrim, all we hear of is the shattered legacy of a bygone era. The Knights of the Nine have been destroyed, the Blades work from the Shadows, the Empire is ruled by a coward, the people of Tamriel live in fear of Elven overlords, the once loyal and hopeful nation of Skyrim is torn apart by civil war, Vampires seek to take over the world, the World Eater intends to do the same... while consuming the souls of all he meets... and the first Dragonborn ever to exist, seeks to devour the last and become the ruler of all things. In Skyrim, we aren't the beginning of anything... we're not the man who destroys a tyrant and brings about a period of peace for the empire, or the man who changes time, we're not the man who had the soul of one long dead... and we're not the man who pushed back Oblivion and then became a god. The end of each Elder Scrolls game is a beginning, but Skyrim makes one thing clear... we are the LAST Dragonborn. There will never be another... it ends with us. And though there may be other heroes, there will never be another quite like us. Skyrim is the dying breath of what the Empire used to be... of the heroes it used to represent. The Dragonborn is the final gasp of glory. When the Elder Scrolls VI comes out, my guess is that we will be working to stop the Thalmor, to END the suffering... to bring in a new age of heroes... but Skyim isn't that story... and when you understand how dire things really are in Skyrim, you begin to understand that, while the story was different... it was by no means, bad.

I like how meta Martin's speech is. It's like he's acknowledging that the divines allowed the Septim dynasty to rule Tamriel for centuries, and the time has come for others to rule. After Oblivion, the Thalmor assassinate Ocato, the Empire falls to pieces, Cyrodiil is consumed by a succession war, the Dominion rises and invades the lands of men, and the fate of the Empire is left dangling by a thread, its fate ours to determine.

To be honest, an empire doesn't need an emperor to be an empire. An empire is typified by military expansion, centralized government and ruling over diverse subjects. Rome for example was an empire long before Caesar grabbed power and Augustus cemented the end of the Republic. If anything, the end of the Septim line would mean the end of the monarchy, which it clearly was. Empires can have a monarch at the top, but don't need to. Rome for example was a republic and an empire. An empire is no form of government or state.

This is literally the greatest ending to any video game in history. I played through the game for probably the hundredth time this summer and even to this day, the emotions that rushed me when this ending happened... it's indescribable. I mean, here you are -- an adventurer and an emperor -- standing in the temple dedicated to the patriarch of the Septim Dynasty. The whole of Tamriel is crumbling at your feet, despite all the work and trials that you both had gone through together. Your best friend says goodbye, knowing of only one last-ditch effort to rescue Nirn from a seemingly inescapable fate; you have little time to truly say goodbye, however, as he calls upon the blood of the Dragon God of Time to remember his covenant with the first ruler of the Empire, St. Alessia, and help him save Nirn from the Daedric Prince of Destruction. All of your adventures have led up to this point: the precipice of the future, your best friend's sacrifice may not even work... except that it does. He becomes one with Akatosh and transforms into an avatar of Akatosh, absolutely unleashing upon Mehrunes Dagon, banishing him to Oblivion and forever sealing the borders between Oblivion and Mundus. After all your adventures, after the heroic sacrifice of your best friend, you realize that finally, things have a chance to return to the way they were. You're recognized as a hero of the Empire, one among an elite knightly order founded by Tiber Septim, the guardian of the future of the Empire. I mean, none of the TES games have EVER given me such a strong emotional rush afterwards. Morrowind came close, Skyrim did too, but Oblivion? I still stand by the statement that it is the most perfect RPG ever developed. Fallout 4 is my favorite game of all time but Oblivion is still the best RPG ever made. I still say the Champion of Cyrodiil should have been the greatest candidate to become Emperor (and I still roleplay that Martin willed that I become Emperor as one of his final orders) but that doesn't diminish the flawlessness of this pure gem, this absolute masterpiece of art.

Thanks for the upload :) My computer did not like this scene at all. It became too choppy to see or hear what was happening.

How did the dragon win? The other guy was smashing his axe right into his chest! Why would the dragon choose to fight in melee range when the other guy had an axe and he did not even have hands to fend for himself??

All gates are closed but there are meny ways of going to oblivion like the black books of Hermaos mora and the anchors in the eagerly anticipated elder scrolls online but as we all know the gates are for deadra to come to tamriel without being binded to any spell
