I'm surprised to see all the comments about the opening. It had the opposite effect on me. Where I was living, Sesame St came on at 4, Mister Rogers at 5, Electric Company at 5:30 and ZOOM at 6. My mom was the one running away with her ears covered at 5:30, becaue she knew I was about to scream, "HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!"

Season 5 opening song is by far the best opening ever, the characters changing into their true life actor counterparts, Fargo, Jennifer of the Jungle, Easy Reader, etc....Love Rita Moreno's yell, "Hey you guys!' My cousins and I still talk about it and I'm 46 years young! Can't replace memories like this, it was entertaining as well as educational.....a rare and successful combination in any decade!

Easily the best intro of all the seasons with the characters phasing from their skit characters to reality. The song is catchy and like everyone else says it throws you back into the past with fond memories of the show. I liked the whole show, including Spidey and The Adventures of Letterman (he quickly took the G off his sweater and changed the goat...into a coat!!!). Thank you, Morgan Freeman, for always being one of the coolest actors of all time!

@Bigbadben7 I know!!! The rush of joy is overwhelming! These opening credits (Seasons 5 & 6) perfectly capture the sense of empowerment and energy that made the Electric Company must-see kid's TV in the 70's. My progressive little elementary school-without-walls in MD let us watch it every single week in class. Teachers loved it; we'd all laugh together and groove together, and then apply the concepts immediately after. We adored the cast. This show was dyn-o-mite!

Even my little sister was tough on me when we were kids. When Moreno shouted "Hey you- I would immediately turn off the TV before she would've screamed "Guys!" Long and loud. But my sister got real pissed off at me and forced me to turn the TV back on and it figures that mom would easily side with my sister back then. So much for people being caring and understanding about how I felt when I was a boy.

I miss longer theme songs, in most cases. I read something a few years ago, where networks were getting producers to get rid of them altogether, and just flash the title and get right into the show to grab the audience before it has a chance to change channels. People like Vic Mizzy (The Addams Family) got rich off leasing the rights to their catchy theme songs! No more theme song millionaires these days!

Anybody remember a sketch that Jim Boyd did that he impersonated Kojak? Him and Morgan Freeman and Skip Hinnant were all in the skit
@afriendofbean11 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I didn't know about that. I guess the reason why I felt they should have called this show "The Speech Company" instead of "The Electric Company" was because, when I was very young, I used to be afraid of this show because of the loud screaming "Hey You Guys" which always made me cry. (Everytime Sesame Street ended, I thought "Mister Rogers Neighborhood" would be next, and when the loud screaming came I cried). I probably would have watched this show if there was no loud screaming

Yes, I remember commenting wondering why they have this loud screaming instead of someone quietly saying in the background "Welcome To The Electric Company" while showing the title card and someone else said the reason why they have the loud screaming was because, it was in one episode and the producers liked it so much that they put it in the intro. I remember the baker from Sesame Street but, he never scared me. The only thing that scared me was Mysterious Theater from Sesame Street.

By the way. That really old Electric Company emblem that was shown at the very beginning was originally used from a Season 3 skit. Skip Hinnant and Luis Avallos were playing construction workers I think carrying The Giant Electric Company emblem for something. I can't remember what for. It's been so long. But whenever they left for a few minutes, Paul The Gorilla would come along and touch some advice that would make the emblem explode and making Skip and Luis explode as well.

Don't worry. You're not alone. I cried in terror myself whenever that horrible screaming came along. And to make matters worse, my mother would force me to watch the last two seasons from the very beginning to the very end because she thought that I was being weird and silly. She said that Rita Moreno's scream is funny and enjoyable and that I shouldn't miss out on anything good. It may have been funny to my mom, but it was horrifying for me. So much for family friendly programs for kids.

The first four seasons were numbered chronologically, as in 1-130, 131-260, 261-390, and 391-520. But seasons 5 and 6 were designed to function as a set of two seasons, A and B, to be shown in rotation. (Seasons 1 through 4 were never aired again.) Hence, season 5 was 1A-130A, and season 6 was 1B - 130B. And they aired in six-month rotations for a few years until the show was retired. If they had stuck to straightforward chronological numbering, 18A would be 538.
