Today I retire after 37 years of teaching in the public schools. I remembered watching the electric company when I was in elementary school, but I am just now grasping the genius of exactly what it was they had done for me and all the other kids who watched the show. Music is very much been a part of my teaching, still today, on my last day of teaching, I played music for my kids (Mozart’s. Slovakian symphony) and I am starting to understand subliminally how this appealed to me they and how they guided and directed me, as to what kind of teacher, I would become. Pure genius by Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno. Pure genius.

No, we were never called Gen X. That was a 1990 invention. The last time a label was attached to a group of people, were those born immediately after WW2, and then there were none. The usage of labels are now being used to separate us. Google is rewriting history.

@@justanotherguy469 Not sure if you are trolling or what......but interestingly sorta related to your comment is that "those who were born immediately after WW2" were also referred to as Gen X by some writers in that period. Only later did "boomers" actually stick. Tbh, I understand your point that labels make enemies. I have never been comfortable with labeling people. Everyone is on a unique path and things like age, gender, race are roadblocks to getting to know the real person.

This show gave me show much in my childhood. The intros always filled me with a magical feeling. The actors were so very intelligent funny & so very open minded & cool, & free & quirky, & crazy & authentic & nothing fake with any of the cast somehow. I needed to have psychedelia in my awful childhood & these people were kind of like my parents, or I like to think it was that important, -I wouldn’t have been so screwed up if the cast were my parents, and if time would have simply stayed froze between the years 1971-1971 then I might have been perfectly fine. I love singing the Theme Song, the lyrics have incredibly beautiful meanings to me. I used to think it went “ we’re going to light up the darkest night… with the brightest star… that you ever scene” is how I sang it, but I realized I was wrong, it actually goes “we’re going to light up the darkest night… with the brightest light… in a whole new way” I think, but I like both ways.
