Wow! Just discovered this video! Never saw one before, for this song! I love the percussion and accompaniment on this. I remember hearing this on the radio back in the day, during the late summer of 1967, as an 11-year old. The greatest year for music IMHO.

Two observations: 1. I like that bouffant hair do on the woman in the opening scene. Very 60's! 2. Now we know where Slash (G&R) stole the top hat idea from!

I remember those days, and I'm not the first one to say that being talented, and being commercially successful, went together a much more in those days than they do now.

@@jg6698 I am afraid that you are wrong with that opinion. 1966 and 1967 were the years that album sales took off, leaving 45s for the younger, poorer (maybe) teenyboppers. 'Serious' listeners went out and bought real stereo equipment to hear the music in stereo. Groips like Paul Revere and the Association were uncool to like. Of course such tastemakers were total snobs, and when Jann Wenner started Rolling Stone magazine, he became the flag bearer for defining some music as unhip. But definitions change and some 'hip' folks discovered how good groups like the Prunes were. Let your ears decide what is worthwhile. No two tastes are the same.

Great video, this track is very beat-heavy so having the drummer stage front and the guitars in back really worked, groovy threads, does it get any better than this - too bad the original E.P. only cut the first two LPs. Everything else was a commercial construct of the producer and some hired hands riding on the brand.

Guitar solo (1:42) is rather similar sounding to Jefferson Airplane.
@wyliesmith4244
@wyliesmith4244 4 ай бұрын
This record came out in August '67 not that much after the Airplane. And lead guitarist Ken Williams was way ahead of his time - when the Prunes producer Dave Hassinger would let him. I saw the Prunes in '04 (with original members Williams, Tulin on bass, and Lowe singing lead), and they could have blown most bands off the stage.

They got back together circa 1999 and made a couple of albums. Their producer (maybe someone else?) actually owned the band's name which is why after this second album (Underground) members drifted away until no original members were left. Lead singer Jim Lowe became an engineer and recorded the Nazz's second album and then worked with Nazz member Todd Rundgren. Lead guitarist joined Lowe and bassist Mark Tulin (those two wrote Banana) when they reformed and tried to pick up where they left off. When I saw them in '04, they had a devoted following and blew the roof off. Tulin died around 2011.

@lukasdoms7483

dont you think the hoax is real too? they always mention banana in propaganda and they always mention it as best source of potassium (which is most important mineral) and its not even true, kale has better levels, and less sugar, sugar is reason for all sickness.
@wyliesmith4244
@wyliesmith4244 4 ай бұрын
The band, who wrote the song, admitted that even the title was a hoax. I assume that it referenced Donovan's hit 'Mellow Yellow' with its line 'electrical banana is gonna be a sudden craze.' The rumor in early '67 was that you were supposed to smoke the peel, after you toasted it, to get high. Donovan admitted that an electrical banana was a vibrator. A different kind of cultural outrageousness.
