The Electric State is an upcoming American science fiction adventure film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.

The Electric State movie was first announced in December 2017, when Anthony and Joe Russo acquired the rights to the graphic novel. They were set as producers, with Andy Muschietti in negotiations to direct. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were set to write the screenplay. In December 2020, Universal Pictures won the distribution rights to The Electric State, with the Russos now directing and Muschietti remaining as a producer on the project via his new production company.
In June 2022, it was reported that The Electric State might have its distribution rights transferred to Netflix, as Universal was no longer planning on giving the movie a theatrical release. Later that month, it was confirmed that Netflix would be distributing the film, with Chris Pratt in talks to star alongside Brown. Principal photography began in October 2022 in Atlanta, under the working title Stormwind. On 4 November 2022, film production was temporarily paused after a crew member working on the movie died in a car crash off-set. Filming for The Electric State officially wrapped in early February 2023.
Most of Simon Stalenhag's artwork was initially available online before later being released for sale as prints. Since then, it has been turned into two narrative art books: Tales from the Loop in 2014 and Things from the Flood in 2016. Both focus on the construction of a supermassive particle accelerator called the Loop.
More recently, Stalenhag has covered the western United States for his third graphic art book, The Electric State, which was also crowdfunded via Kickstarter. The Electric State is centred around a girl and her robotic companion traversing the fictional state of Pacifica as society slowly unravels around them. Simon & Schuster published the UK edition of The Electric State in September 2018, and Skybound Books published a North American edition the following month. The Electric State (the Simon & Schuster edition) was one out of six finalists for the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 2019 Also in 2019, the Skybound edition of The Electric State was shortlisted for the Art Book category of the Locus Award.
Sea Oleena is the project of Canadian musician Charlotte Oleena (Charlotte Loseth). Based out of Montreal, her music hovers between ambient dream pop and experimental post-folk, relying on rich, atmospheric textures, subtle guitar effects, and autumnal melancholia. Aided by her brother Luke Loseth, she released the self-titled Sea Oleena mini album in 2010 followed a year later by a second mini album called Sleeplessness. With her crystalline voice and atmospheric tones, Sea Oleena's music is sometimes compared to acts like Grouper and Julianna Barwick with echoes of dream pop pioneers the Cocteau Twins and a Julee Cruise. Sea Oleena signed with Oregon-based indie Lefse Records to release Shallow in September 2014.
On the cover of Shallow, someone beckons away from the camera with a bloodied finger, and a red bracelet on her wrist. It's an unsettling image, and Shallow possesses a similar unease. On the record's closing track, Paths, Sea Oleena repeats, "Yours is a path I'd like to cross." It's a love song, and a song about submission, need, brokenness, and pain. Sea Oleena dissolves hurt and comfort into the same mist, and never once flinches at how close they swirl to each other.
Soft, meticulous and with the tiniest splash of creepy, Weaving A Basket (2020) weaves a dream state over the listener and lulls them into the sea.
The album falls into two dream categories. The opening two tracks are water-coloured brushes of fluffy drone synths and Sea Oleena’s voice on the wind and waves. Calvisius in particular is superb at creating a delicate feminine warmth as the vocals soothe you in the lamenting drones. From there, the album brings in acoustic guitar, minimal bass and a sound palette of water, earth and background wind and traffic. It is minimalist by design and the slow pace and hypnotic nature of every song makes it feel like you are listening to folk music through a sea shell.
The centrepiece of Weaving A Basket is the ten-minute Gardens. All the songs grapple with your heartstrings, Gardens, though, rounds up everything Sea Oleena does so well and lays it into an album within an album.
