Lyrics:
Elephants! Such a fascinating animal
It's almost magical when you see them in their natural habitat of Africa and Asia
They're the largest land animal on the planet (Say whaaaat?)
They can weigh up to 18,000 pounds, or 9 tons apiece
(That's a hefty beast!)
You talk about a creature with some cool features
They have a big, long trunk and don't forget the floppy ears!
Speaking of ears, that's the main way that we see
The difference between the 3 species
First we have African savanna then African forest
Both of these species have the ears that are the largest
The last species is the Asian elephant
Its ears are much smaller by comparison (Cool!)
Now let's talk about the elephant's trunk
The tip of it acts just like a finger and a thumb
It can pick up a single blade of grass! (Wow!)
But the trunk is also used for more heavy-duty tasks
It can pick up logs and sling rocks with ease
The elephant's trunk is so strong it can push down trees!
With their trunks, elephants can hold lots of water
Nearly 3 gallons worth at a time!
They slurp up the water then they spray it in their mouth
Like a built-in water pipeline!
Before we finish this song now we must
Talk about the elephant's tusks (The elephant's tusks!)
And it might be hard to believe
But they're actually the elephant's teeth! (The elephant's teeth?)
That's right! But they don't really use the tusks to chew
They have molars for that (So what do the tusks do?)
They're for digging, scraping, and moving things around
Like ripping bark off trees or pulling roots from the ground
Elephant (3x)
Officially known as a pachyderm
Elephant (3x)
Their trunk has over 40,000 muscles!
Elephant (3x)
Elephants have excellent memory
Elephant (3x)
We love elephants!
