After all, elevators do have certain safety standards and fixing up the elevator shaft up to standards while doing it at times when the least people are around (hence why we never hear and elevator repair noises in the show) and doing it for a reasonable amount of money would take awhile. Not to mention starting to look for those services could've taken awhile in the first place if there weren't already people with movement difficulties in the building since just saying no elevator on the property listing is kinda easy.

In what state can you get by not fixing an elevator? Not California, so how smart they are, they never knew to say "hey, you fix this elavator or we are suing you and not paying rent till you do." Thats 12 years of free rent....for the whole building. Rent is what, $3,000 where they live for a 2 bedroom apartment? so thats at least $36,000 per house hold. If your elevator stops working, stop paying rent. 12 years of $3,000 is $36,000 they have leases that say the management needs to maintain the property. Sure Leonard and sheldon should have been arrested....fined....fined AND arrested. But since they didn't get in trouble for stealing that....jet fuel? They could have still gone to jail for the explosion. Which some how didn't catch fire to anything else....this show doesn't seem like it was made by or for smart people.... according to California law, if you have a dead beat landlord you can stop paying rent until they bring the safety and standards up to California level. over the course of the show, the land lord was paid over $120,000 for rent, to rent a place that violated all kinds of laws. Right...I don't believe our guys are smart at all then. Which means the show writers really don't know how to write for smart people without making fun of them too. They could have had their lease terminated or just not pay. So the show is making fun of the characters. If they aren't laughing, we are laughing at them not with them.

@@Ben8484I for one liked that, because it demonstrated character growth. One of the first times Penny wasn’t so kind to Sheldon, was when she cleaned her messy apartment while she was sleeping. Another time was in the panty piñata episode where she banished him from the Cheesecake Factory, while refusing to “knuckle under”. When Penny was injured, he helped her get to the hospital and even sang Soft Kitty to her. The culmination of these events - understanding Sheldon’s social quirks and accepting him more and more for who he is and realize his actions have no malicious intent - was a good build up with how their friendship turned out in the end. That bathroom conversation they had during his birthday, about how she realized he’s one of her favourite people even if there was a time she would have bullied Sheldon like her sister did, demonstrated good character development and growth from both of them. I understand you will continue to dwell on how the final 4 seasons have never turned out how you wanted, but sometimes you have to just appreciate and accept what happened, and let go of this toxicity that is beginning to make you start hating the actors too (like what you said about Kaley Cuoco).

Penny was also just a bad person overall and treated Leonard like SHIT, just like Bernadette treated Howard. That’s lazy writing; making them so SIMILAR. Check out “What could have been”, by son-goku5, instead. Penny has a MUCH better fate in that story and doesn’t treat Leonard like SHIT. Sheldon even gets more of what he deserves.

It's completely plausible if there were government instituted price controls. Property taxes go up but landlords can't raise the rent. So something has to give. If you don’t know what Happened to the elevator, you should look for it. BBT was one of my favs. Great laughs and about nerds, just up my alley. I loved when Bob Newhart was on the show. Bob was always “the straight man” in a bunch of nuts; his specialty. So was Penny and Kaley was magnificent at it too, so their scenes together were a pleasure to watch!
