This film documents our journey to turn this 1951 home into a modern version of the mid-century aesthetic. We took the best ideas of 1950's architecture (indoor/outdoor living, lots of natural light, family-centric space and scale, natural materials) and added the best of 2022 smarthome and energy-efficient technology. Along the way, we executed on some really innovative ideas in the kitchen with open shelving, a moveable island and induction range, and a 17 foot glass pocket-door with a fully extendable screen to make the kitchen into a screened porch.
While I did the majority of the design work and built a lot of the cabinet bases, tables, lamps, and peg-boards myself, it took a lot of people to make this project happen. I am grateful for the partnership with Bart Miller and Matt Perky at ERAC services who led this effort from the construction side and who always embraced my (sometimes wacky) ideas with helpful enthusiasm. The lighting and systems were a key portion of this project, and I can't recommend Chris Pilgrim from The Sound Hut enough. From the beginning, he really embraced our vision and worked tirelessly to make it a reality.
After 2 years and thousands of hours of work by all involved, I am happy to share the results of this project.
