Wow, another killer lesson. As a member for almost 4 years, I HIGHLY recommend David's Fingerstyle Five membership. As a world-class player and teacher he has an answer for any issue you might have trying to learn this style. At first, it feels awkward getting your fingers and thumb to work independently and together but he has lots of tips to make them do so using slow, easy to understand techniques. As you can see and hear, he's got GROOVE for days and I love listening, learning and playing walking bass lines over moving chords and/or melody lines. If you'd like to do the same, check out this month's lessons and ALL the ones he's ever done inside the membership. What I like most about playing Fingerstyle guitar is you can be your own 4 piece band. You can lay down a percussive groove, add steady, alternating, or walking bass, add chord hits or moving chords, and play melody or lead on top. Think of the money you'll save not having to hire additional musicians😁😁. It's an addicting style to learn and play and thanks to David I can't stop. An intervention would be useless. Did I mention it's FUN. YOU can do it. Give him a try.......you're welcome.

I still have an old VHS tape of Emily's instructional video "Bebop and Swing guitar" from the 1980's. She was great. I had all her albums. Couldn't believe it when she passed away at such a young age.

Drugs are Bad (she OD'd in Sydney.. at an after show party ) apparently MUCH stronger uncut.. compared to her USA experience but yes.. a very very very sad loss indeed ( a VERY special lady) my old VHS of her.. technological redundancy (I chucked a good 15 or so great Arlen Roth Hotlick VHS (were they not about U$50 in the 80s ?) I miss them (was a fool to chuck them one clean up day ) as I still have a brand new VHS tape player in a box ( but such painful stuff ( tape cleaners I dont miss !) my feeling is Eric Johnson sounded WAAAAY BETTER back in 1987

Awesome. Still working on mastering the basic walking bass, but this is a definite uptick to that technique that I want to add. Thanks, man!

Wow you studied with Emily Remler? Started in jazz, to come back to blues -- now I know why I keep coming back here. What's that lovely guitar? 0-28 Martin?

Ah, me too :-). And you’re close! It’s a OO-18.

Playing that bass line in octaves will get you in Tommy Johnson territory. 🙂
