The Empire State Building and its sister buildings are now completely powered by wind energy. That’s more than 10M square feet of buildings going renewable 💨

Excellent leadership! High insulation, high efficiency, electric thermal mass heated floors, on site renewables, solar air heaters and off site renewables are definitely the future. This is what I did with my 100 year old house. I even disconnected the natural gas line from my property because I am now powered by renewably powered electricity.

@@markrayes2973 If you were retrofitting wind turbines to a building, you would more likely using vertical ones and when im not mistaken, those don't kill that many birds. And the amount of birds killed by big (to them invisible) glass buildings is the real problem in cities, that should be solved.

This is beyond silly. They just *buy* 'green' energy. They did not create it. That energy already existed in the net. All they did was buy the right to say they are green. There was no shift in the amount of CO2 emitted. They did not reduce CO2 emissions of the net as a whole. The only shift was in the bragging rights. It would have been completely different had they put up some new solar/wind energy plants themselves solely for the purpose of reducing their CO2 emissions.

People, look into green alternative energy. Out here in the midwest, arcadian energy will take over your consumer power account and provide your utility co with 50%wind for the same price and 100% wind for an extra $5/month, with situational discounts that can make it slightly cheaper than utility rates.

Isn't that just greenwashing to trick people into paying more for electricity? Unless your money paid for enough wind turbines to account for every megawatt you use, you can't say your house is powered by wind.

If the built the turbines to generate it offsite, that would also be authentic, but I see no reason to suggest that's what they did. As far as I can tell, they're just drawing from the same grid as everyone else.

I'm encouraged and proud of leadership, which supports the transition to renewable energy, and said leadership is uniquely valuable when it comes from the private sector. Of course, I fully endorse governmental action, due to its necessary role in the massive problem of climate change, but these forces are not causally isolated. In fact, their both complementary and necessary. As government supports renewable energy, this leads to greater development in the private sector. This is, of course, evidenced by changes in regulatory and lending policy, which has partially lead to driving down the costs of wind power, according to the World Economic Forum and the IEA's most recent report. To my actual point, business and the private sector also play a role in this because they evidence the power, success, and economic value of such technology, which leads to increased passive and active lobbying on the behalf of these sources. For example, Blackrock's decision to suspend investment in the oil industry and the media's reporting on this significant policy signals to other investors, the people, and ultimately also to government that the business sector favors governmental action to support these industries, leading to more aggressive and desperately necessary moves in the right the right direction. We need all the help we can get.

@@godispeace8144 Fair enough but the ranking is more of an evaluation of manufacturing and technology sectors for countries comparing from education to patent creation. One of the criteria for the ranking is technology company density in a country. If I have 10 new firms in US vs 10 in Korea then Korea ranks higher by this criteria even though its the same amount for both countries. The paper does acknowledge that most innovation spending comes from US and China however there are issues that impact both countries which decrease their ranking such as IP laws, patent infringement, education, country development status, amount of skilled labor etc.

Maybe we should build wind energy wind mills the size of the Empire State building or the Chrysler Building, isn't it too bad that its normal for wind energy wind mills to be chopped down and removed after their life span of 25 years is up, they will remove the wind mills after about 25 years and even remove the concrete in the foundation footing of the windmill, because they claim that the wind mills are too old and will fall over, this is just not true, the foundations for these wind energy windmills can last for thousands of years, and if the wind energy windmills towers are getting week after so many years, wouldn't it make more sense to keep adding more material to the weekend tower to make it stronger, rather than throwing away good structure, shouldn't the wind energy wind mill blades last and last and last, nope they have to be replaced over and over again, this is what is wrong with our economy, we just build things so they are headed for the junk yard or land fill to be re melted over and over and over, should just keep driving the same car over and over for millions of miles rather than melting the car down over and over, the plastic will last for millions and millions of years right, well in that case, we have nothing to worry about because their is no reason to keep making new materials since that plastic will last so long and will never rust or rot like pot metal or wood, how about that,

@@brian2440 well you could put a wind mill on top of the Empire State building or Eiffel Tower and you would be generating clean energy, but i think people would protest, one of the great things about renewable energy is if you have solar or wind set up at your home or ranch, all the transmission costs are deleted, so that is 25% of the energy bill is the transmission costs, remote towns and stuff will really benefit from the transmission costs being removed, and we can use clothes lines to dry our clothes, i don't even use a clothes dryer anymore even in the winter, also i think water towers are a good source of pumped hydro batteries like grain bins for water right next to river

@@andrewkennedy3859 I mean on a larger scale the entire residential sector of the country consumes the LEAST amount of energy compared to commercial and industrial, and you’re talking about a niche section of residential..... I’m not against wind power, but from an engineering standpoint my point was that just having a bigger wind turbine isn’t always better. Also I HIGHLY DOUBT rural communities are paying realized transmission costs in their utility bills - those are sometimes billion dollar infrastructure products. You may see a slight increase if they install new distribution (which on another note your home doesn’t connect to transmission as it’s too high of voltage - that’s why we have substations).

@bananaboatcharlie
@bananaboatcharlie 4 жыл бұрын
Not according to economists and environmentaalists. In the beginning of any of these projects the power is more costly, however as more turbines come online the costs decrease and are more competitive to existing systems (nuclear, coal, gas). Part of the economic development for Maryland is in exchange for the higher price of power. As more turbines are added to the wind farm the prices drop. As more wind farms are built along the east coast the price also drops. It's good for tourism, fishing, and putting Delaware in the forefront of the renewable energy push.
