Its crazy that they cheered 😂 it almost sounds too good to be true. In my movie theater it was dead silent. But my theater also reacted to other parts of the film 😊

Yeah, when my mother went to go see this in theaters when it first came out, that iconic line elicited gasps of shock throughout the whole theater. My mother herself had to sit in a chair when she got home and contemplate for a good long while what it was she just saw, she was that shocked. Interestingly enough, even James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, didn't believe it. He thought Vader was lying to Luke. But it turns out, Vader was telling the truth all along. But it is this scene, and this scene alone, that makes me believe that you should watch the Original Trilogy first, not the Prequel Trilogy. Otherwise, the emotional impact of that revelation would be diminished.

I was born in late 2000, so I grew up with the prequels being released. I can see why you'd want to watch the originals first instead of going in chronological order, but again I was not the right age to understand. But believe me, I would've loved to been in a theater back in '80 to see the biggest plot twist in movie history and everyone's reaction to it!
@astrofan1993 Жыл бұрын
@UncleMikeNJ That's actually quite sad that people didn't know that the Titanic sank. Not "boo-hoo" sad, mind you, but rather "that's so pathetic" sad. It goes to show just how far we have dumbed down our history lessons in school. Next, I bet you they'll be asking if Apollo 13 actually happened. Spoiler alert: it did. And I actually got to meet Jim Lovell, the commander of the real-life mission and a personal hero of mine, at his now-closed restaurant many years ago.

I saw the movie on the day it came out. No one knew darth vader was luke's father. I remember exactly what the audience did. There was a moment of silence for about 2 seconds.. then it went crazy. Yeah back then. .there was no social media for cast members and crew to leak things.
