There are technically 5 versions of the Skywalker Graflex/Graflex Style hilt: ROTJ, ANH, ESB, TFA/TLJ, and ROS. We all know the ROTJ version was actually a 1 3/4" High polish Graflex Style hilt, whereas all the others were built off the actual brushed 2" graflex flash: 1. ANH was the biggest outlier with the bubble box, glass eye, and the glued grips, along with the box in a different location 2. ESB introduced the riveted grips, changed the box location to where all the others were, and replaced the glass eye with a second red button 3. TFA version was identical to the ESB, albeit is "corrected" to return the glass eye and is, in my opinion, the most "correct" version of the hilt. 4. ROS reforged version was the TFA with the leather band replacing the graflex clamp and an odd box to play at low-rent "fixing" the split saber. A note on box position: a Graflex flash handle has a quick lock system that easily splits into two sections, but can be assembled in 2 or 3 positions. ANH had the initial position, which naturally led the wielder to hold the hilt with ears facing towards them, red button easily accessible by primary hand. ESB and on (including ROTJ) standardized the position that forced the wielder to hold with the ears pointed away from the wielder, making the red button more difficult to access. I suspect this is why the glass eye was changed to a second red button in ESB, as that location is easier to hit. Regardless, I think this change was a mistake, and unfortunately now the Canon standard, despite the ANH configuration making far more sense in terms of button access and general visual appeal.

I used to have a massive lightsaber collection that I started building with the Icons ANH Skywalker in the late 90's and it really took off when Master Replicas, later EFX began producing them in the early 00's. Even collected a few from independent artist that unfortunately were forced to shut down around the time Master Replicas acquired the official liscense. I currently have two hilts left in my collection, Master Replicas TESB Skywalker and a Phantom Menace Obi Wan stunt replica by EFX. I currently have EFX newest version of the Obi Wan Phantom Menace on preorder. This is an excellent looking TESB Skywalker lightsaber, although they do need to fix the color and orientation, of the circuit board attached to the graflex clamp. The absence of the mylar tape isn't a deal breaker and an easy fix. I will definitely be looking at adding this as well as the Phantom Menace Obi Wan that you reviewed six months ago to my collection in the coming months. I do miss having sabers that light up with sound effects in my collection.
